Union Janitor

About the Role:

The Union Janitor position at our Minneapolis PDC facility plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for both employees and visitors. This role ensures that all assigned areas are thoroughly cleaned and maintained according to union standards and company policies, contributing directly to the overall operational efficiency and workplace satisfaction. The janitor will be responsible for routine cleaning tasks, waste management, and minor maintenance duties, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and supplies, with the ability to follow safety instructions.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as required.
• Membership or eligibility to join the relevant union representing janitorial staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in janitorial or custodial services, preferably within a unionized environment.
• Familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment and techniques.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
• Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and supervisors.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

Responsibilities:

• Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing floors, surfaces, and restrooms.
• Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, reporting any malfunctions or shortages to the supervisor promptly.
• Follow established union and company protocols to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, reporting facility repairs, and setting up rooms for meetings or events.
