Job Title: Food Service Worker/Cook - 7.5 hrs Starting Hourly Rate: $14.37/Nonexempt
Reports to: Cafeteria Manager, Lead, Director
Dept./School: Food Service Department
Primary Purpose:
Prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation and safety practices.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Some schooling helpful, but not required.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions.
Ability to read and understand standardized recipes.
Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures.
Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Food Preparation and Serving
- Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.
- Taste test food to ensure quality standard of finished product.
- Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies and procedures.
- Practice and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.
- Maintain appropriate records of quantity of food prepared.
- Checks food temperature & records temperature.
- Set up serving line for breakfast & lunch.
- Follow established procedures to maintain a clean & sanitized kitchen.
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
- Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow employees.
- Maintains a positive attitude in dealing with students and staff.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Large and small kitchen equipment and tools including electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, sharp cutting tools, oven, dishwasher and food and utility cart.

Ability to read. Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions. Continual standing, walking, pushing; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, moderate lifting
and carrying; moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
