We are looking to hire a part-time (8-12 hours per week) weekend Art Teacher/ Entertainer/ Bartender. If you are interested, please read this until the end. Sipping N' Painting Hampden is a fun, local, family-owned, "paint and sip" studio in SE Denver that has been operating since 2012! We offer fun, lively, paint and sip parties, as well as occasional Bob Ross oils classes, watercolor classes, Paint-Your-Pet, etc. Our art teachers also tend bar, and set-up and clean up during each 4-hour shift. The ideal candidate meets the following criteria. Is extroverted, high energy, friendly, cheerful and outgoing. (Former cheerleaders, camp counselors, college orientation leaders, preschool or kindergarten teachers, entertainers, etc., are the kind of personality we are looking for! This position would be great for self-employed artists, stay-at-home parents or college students looking for weekend work.) Is available to work legally in the U.S. Has a painting portfolio (photos of previous paintings) to show us your painting skill level. Is available for most weekend shifts Friday - Sunday. We require a minimum availability of 3 Saturdays per month, including Saturday evenings. Can arrive for evening weekday classes by 5:30pm, regardless of traffic. (M-Th availability is not required. Friday-Sunday availability is required.) Understands our busy season is seasonal. More shifts are available late fall to early spring. Summers have reduced # of shifts available. Is a proficient communicator in English. (Bi-lingual is a plus!) Is 21 years of age or older (due to the bar) Has experience teaching or working directly with the public Has a positive attitude/team spirit Is physically able to meet the demands of a shift (can stand on your feet for up to 4 hours at a time, step on and off a one-step wooden stage, carry boxes of wine or beer from the storage room to the bar, stock boxes of paints, climb a small ladder to hang art, clean bathroom, etc.). Has references from a previous work supervisor attesting to work performance, punctuality and reliability. Is familiar with popular forms of social media such as Facebook and Instagram, and knows how to use them. Has their own transportation. Is trustworthy, coachable and hard-working. Is open-minded about diversity, and community oriented. Is assertive enough to "cut people off" at the bar when necessary. Understands this job is intended to be part-time, supplemental or adjunct employment, only. There are no paid health insurance, retirement or vacation benefits. (This job will never be more than part-time, so please do not apply if you need more than 8-12 hours per week.) Understands payment is made only for hours worked. Classes are scheduled weeks in advance but may occasionally be canceled due to low enrollment, when employees may be called and told they are no longer needed. Has daily access to a computer to check your email, and checks work email daily. Living close to the studio is a plus, in the event an optional additional shift becomes available on short notice. Due to the bartending part of the job, applicants with substance abuse issues should not apply. (We do not want to sabotage anyone's sobriety.) Compensation We pay a beginning base rate of $80 (plus tips) per 4 hour shift to start. Teachers receive a shift differential of an additional $5 per hour for working Friday or Saturday evenings, as well as the following holidays: New Years Eve, New Years Day, Mother's Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve. After a probationary period of 90 days, the base hourly rate may be increased commensurate with your experience and satisfactory performance, and annually after that. All tips are d between staff on duty and must be reported to the IRS. We never pay "under the table". What are the perks? It's fun! The work culture is great! Your art will be featured on our website and all over social media -- it is a great source of exposure for artists building their careers! Your friends or family members can come in and paint when you teach, or in another class with you, for only the cost of our supplies ($15), assuming there is room in the class. You will be given a 25% discount for any private events you may wish to have at the studio. We know these requirements are substantial we are fortunate to have a lot of interest in working at our studio.
