Maintenance Worker (LTE) - NEW Zoo

Job Summary

Performs routine janitorial, grounds maintenance, and other related duties at the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park. . Weekend and special event schedule should be expected during the vibrant season. Snow removal required during idle season.

Seasonal Schedule:

Vibrant Season: April to November

20-40 hours per week.

Idle Season: November-April

0-20 hours per week.

Essential Duties

PRIMARY:

Performs general facilities maintenance. Duties include cleaning restrooms, washing windows, floors and walls, emptying litter, and other janitorial work as instructed.

SECONDARY:

Performs general outdoor maintenance work. Assisting Groundskeeper with projects including:

  • Lawn maintenance
  • Weeding
  • Pruning
  • Raking

Maintains structures, walks, and ponds including:

  • Painting
  • Pressure washing
  • Asphalt repair

Maintains written records and logs.

Responds to inquiries, requests and/or complaints from members of the public.

Instruct and/or assist volunteers or other assigned personnel in proper work techniques and methods as appropriate.

Assists in enforcement of park ordinances and park security.

Operate equipment necessary in the performance of duties in a safe and appropriate manner including:

  • Mowers
  • String trimmers
  • Saws
  • Drills
  • Pressure washer
  • Pumps
  • Golf cart

Loads and unloads materials.

Performs related functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education and Training:

  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Experience in facilities and grounds maintenance preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Wisconsin Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

General working knowledge of buildings and grounds maintenance.

General knowledge of basic math and reading.

Ability to independently lift 50 lbs.

Ability to use hand and power tools.

Ability to operate trucks and power equipment.

Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions.

Ability to follow detailed instructions, which may be oral and/or written.

Ability to read and interpret a variety of maps.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to answer inquiries and complaints effectively with tact and courtesy.

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and the public.

Ability to work the required hours of the position.
