Maintenance Mechanic V - Dan River Prison Work Farm

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for supervisory work or highly skilled work in the general maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings, related equipment, and plumbing, heating/cooling, and/or electrical systems. Position responsibilities also include:

• Work requires the exercise of initiative and judgment in the application of various technical trade skills to a variety of maintenance, repair and/or construction problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done.
• Work usually involves supervision of employees engaged in journeyman level work involving electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, painting, or other trades.
• Employee may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently at and above the journeyman level.

"As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state's pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range(s) will be $43,738 - $76,542."

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Dan River Prison Work Farm is in Blanch, NC. The facility sits on a 187.5-acre site in the north-central area of Caswell County and houses felon and misdemeanant minimum custody adult male offenders. Work assignments include food service, maintenance, janitorial and other institutional jobs. Other assignments include maintenance work at Caswell Correctional Center and the offender construction program.

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. High school or General Educational Development diploma and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
