BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The Environmental Services Technician level I is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment. While executing the assigned tasks, the EVS Tech will have contact with patients, visitors, and clinical and non-clinical staff. Contact may include physical, psychological, educational, and safety related and should be appropriate to the specific demographics of patients served in assigned service areas. Responsible for ensuring timely room turns related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. Also, may be responsible for proper waste handling and disposal, floorcare, and operating room terminal cleaning. The environmental services technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, prevention and patient experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

• Maintains a safe working environment; reports unsafe working conditions and/or maintenance concerns to Environmental Services Lead, Coordinator or Director
• Uses UV-Disinfecting Robot as assigned or requested
• Uses appropriate cleaning products and techniques for the work being done
• Completes area assignments in a timely manner
• Cleans units, discharge and occupied, according to procedure
• Makes unoccupied beds according to procedure
• Spot washes walls, spot cleans carpet, high dusts areas according to policy/procedure
• Stocks EVS supplies where needed in areas of assignment
• Performs wet mopping techniques, according to established procedures
• Uses wet floor signs appropriately and removes them in a timely manner
• Correctly operates and maintains vacuum cleaners
• Keeps cleaning carts clean, stocked, and ready to use
• Keeps tools/equipment ready for use. Returns them to their proper location after use
• Performs additional area assignments and/or assists co-workers as needed
• Reports work activity on Daily Reports
Depending on where placed when hired in some Tech 1’s may also be responsible for the duties listed below:
• Linen Specific
o Job is aerobically challenging and requires a high degree of physical activity
o Lifting/carrying laundry bags weighing up to 60 pounds
o Repetitively lifting laundry bags and hoisting overhead onto soiled laundry carts
o Collection and handling of soiled linen from inside the hospital
o Maintain linen par levels in assigned areas by stocking as needed
• Trash Specific
o Performs trash disposal duties as assigned:
i Collects and transports solid waste to designated disposal locations
i Notifies appropriate waste hauler for collection and pick-up as needed
o Collects regulated medical waste, sharps and pharmaceutical containers and stores in appropriate areas in compliance with EPA regulations
• Floor Care
o Uses wet floor signs appropriately and removes them in a timely manner
o Operates and maintains floor scrubber appropriately
• Spot washes walls, spot cleans carpet, high dusts areas according to policy/procedure
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education/Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• Institutional cleaning experience preferred
• Excellent customer service skills

• Varied locations and hours as required by the job
• Works every third weekend
• Works 3 scheduled holidays
• Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
• Ability to work shifts of at least 8 hours, and occasionally longer.
