Scope of Work:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide base operations support through the performance of general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings at the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) and auxiliary sites.
Responsibilities:
- Perform cleaning and housekeeping required in performance of normal maintenance activities.
- Assist in preventive maintenance on barriers, gates, overhead doors, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and other work as directed.
- Perform cleaning and assist in the preventive maintenance of pools and fountains as directed.
- Assist electricians in a variety of tasks such as replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
- Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
- Assist in repairs or replacement of sinks, water coolers, and toilets, painting structures and equipment.
- Assist in Repairs or replacement of concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replace damaged paneling and floor tiles, hand doors and install door locks, replace broken windowpanes, and perform general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
- Assist in repair of indoor plumbing systems, repair and maintenance of utility gas water and sewer piping, valves, and systems.
- Assist in cleaning coils, replacement of pumps and motors, water remediation.
- Replace filters, replace belts, clean mechanical rooms as well as changing batteries in locks and smoke detectors.
- Maintain accountability for all tools assigned.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- The work of the general maintenance worker requires practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in a variety of building and/or utility trades.
- HS Diploma or equivalent required.
- Commercial Driver’s License Class “B” preferred but not required.
- Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
- Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
- Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Must be able to work alternate shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements of the customer, to include weekends and holidays.
- On a continuous basis, sit, stand, bend, climb ladders (up to 40 feet), stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and twist for varying periods in the course of work; use hands and fingers to grasp tools; make repetitive hand and body motions; twist and reach below and above shoulder; lift or carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance; communicate with co-workers using cellular phones or telephones, write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; see in the normal vision range with or without correction to read computer screen, blueprints, and drafting plans; hear in the normal range with or without correction.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors environments. Some work is performed with exposure to low to loud noise levels; frequent fieldwork is required with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and the external environment; tasks may require working in tightly enclosed spaces and the use of ladders or other safety equipment to gain access to hard-to-reach locations; some work is performed in tunnels, crawl spaces, attics or on rooftops. Some work may require exposure to dust, particulates, unpleasant and potentially hazardous substances, and high voltage.
Training:
- All conferences, workshops and seminars as deemed necessary by the supervisor or the position. Completes all safety, anti-terrorism, fire extinguisher, asbestos awareness, and any other local, state, federal, installation required, and any other training deemed necessary by the supervisor or position.
