JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing City facilities, equipment, and buildings. This role involves a wide range of tasks including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical repair work to ensure the proper functioning and safety of City properties.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance and Repair
- Perform general and preventive maintenance on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, electrical, and plumbing issues; replace parts as needed.
- Conduct carpentry, welding, and fabrication projects.
- Perform interior and exterior painting as assigned.
Facilities and Equipment
- Install, assemble, move and repair furniture and fixtures.
- Install and troubleshoot access control systems.
General Responsibilities
- Follow established safety standards and practices.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Work is performed throughout City facilities, requiring exposure to potentially dangerous tools
equipment, outside weather conditions, and hazardous chemicals.
- Duties may involve climbing ladders, working at heights, and lifting/moving objects weighing up to
60 pounds.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience in trades maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid State driver's license required.
- Must be able to pass the CJIS background check prior to authorization of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of tools, materials, and methods used in general building maintenance and repair.
- Understanding of work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Skill in troubleshooting and diagnosing maintenance issues.
- Ability to complete accurate mathematical calculations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
