Utility Maintenance Worker II / Sewer Jet Operator

Responsibility for performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal water distribution and sewer collection systems. Work responsibilities extend to providing work direction to less experienced maintenance workers and laborers. Work is performed under the general direction of the Utilities Systems Foreman.

  • Cleans, inspects and maintains the Sanitary Sewer and Storm Drain Systems to ensure proper flow.
  • Operates Sewer jet to clean sanitary sewer and storm drain systems of waste materials for proper flow.
  • Assist in other maintenance and repairs of the water, sewer and storm drain systems, including driving dump truck.
  • Responds to emergency calls after normal work hours.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in sanitary sewer and storm drain maintenance.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Montana Class A Commercial Drivers License with Air Brake and Tankers
  • Other special licensure or equipment certifications as required.

  • Substantial Knowledge and ability to operate Sewer Jet, dump truck, frontend loader and steamer.
  • Substantial knowledge of water, sanitary sewer, and storm drain systems.
  • Ability to read and understand utility maps and as-builds.
  • Ability to assign and direct the work of other employees.
  • Respond to emergency calls after normal work hours.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors and the general public.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    This position provides work direction to less experienced workers and laborers.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to cold, heat, noise, dust, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to s stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, climb, push, pull, grasp, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate power and hand tools, motorized construction and maintenance equipment and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone or two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.

    EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working. Must be available for on-call work.

    TRAVEL

    Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
