This position will be filled on a "seasonal" "temporary" or "short-term" basis dependent upon the applicant's availability and timeframe worked, past and present. This position will be filled to work for the approximate time period of June 2025 - August 2025.

GENERALPURPOSE:
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds and parks.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the supervision of the Parks Foreman.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May supervise community service workers or temporary employees as required and assigned.
Job Duties
ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are typical for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
It is expected that every employee should be on time, fully prepared, every day that the employee is scheduled to work.
- As directed, orient, train and supervise the work activities of temporary employees and community service workers. Assure work is performed in accordance with sound safety practices set forth by the Parks Foreman.
- Assistsin therepair and installation ofsprinkler lines and heads.
- Assists in Urban Forestry techniques in removal, pruning, planting, care, and treatment of urban trees.
- Performall functions ofparks maintenance at ahigh level ofproficiency.
- Proficiently operate all assigned equipment and vehicles to perform any operation within the capacity of the machine as necessary to accomplish required work.
- Operatesnumerous types ofequipment such as self-propelled commercial mowers,tractors, loader, dump truck, turf renovation equipment, welder, jack hammer, trencher,backhoe, etc.
- Performssemi-skilled interior and exteriorbuildingmaintenance such as painting,plumbing, carpentryand electrical work.
- Flexibleto beavailable for emergencycall-outs duringofftime.
- Performsother duties as assigned.
PERIPHERALDUTIES:
- Maintenance techniquesin thecare, construction and operation ofCityParks systems,includingathletic fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, parks, shelters, open spaces andgreen belts.
- Playground inspection, installation and maintenance.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Graduationfrom high school orGED equivalent, and
- Twoyearsof experienceinrepair and maintenance work, or
- Anyequivalentcombination ofrelevant education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have sufficient experiencein thefield ofparks maintenanceto have acquiredan extensiveknowledgeofthemethods, materials, tools, and equipment used inall phases, includingabasic general knowledgeofelectricity, plumbing,carpentry, cement work, and irrigation systems.
- Workingknowledgeofequipment, materials and supplies used in buildingandgrounds maintenance.
- Workingknowledgeoffirst aid and applicable safetyprecautions.
- Skill in theoperation oflisted tools and equipment.
- Abilityto read and interpret technical materials pertainingto groundsmaintenance, includingcatalogs, blueprints on buildings and irrigation systems,journals, and manuals.
- Abilityto work independentlyand to complete dailyactivities accordingto workschedule; abilityto work effectivelyas ateam member; abilityto communicateorallyand in writing; abilityto work safely; abilityto understand, follow, andtransmit written and oral instructions; abilityto establish effective workingrelationships with employees, supervisors, and thepublic.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS:
- ValidMontana State Driver's License.
- KnowledgeofTurfIrrigation.
- Knowledge of Urban Forestry

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Pickup truck; lawn and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, aerator, chain saw, edger, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work; janitorial equipment.
