Facilities Maintenance Worker I - Landscaper

Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled, sometimes physically demanding, building, grounds maintenance and repair tasks. Executes routine mechanical maintenance and service work. Operates a variety of construction and maintenance tools and equipment. Work is performed County-wide for all departments under the general supervision of the Facilities Director. Performs all work in accordance with sound safety practices.
This is a 0.5 FTE position working 20 hours per week.
High School diploma or GED. Basic experience in facilities and grounds maintenance, Must have or obtain a valid Washington State drivers license and EPA licensure for type I and type II CFC and HCFC refrigerate handling. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Working Knowledge of:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather at sites throughout the County. May involve working at heights from ladders or scaffolding and in confined spaces such as crawl spaces. May work over water at marine facilities. May be exposed to a variety of hazards such as heavy equipment, electrical power lines, and exposure to chemicals, chemically treated wood, dust, fumes, grease, and inclement weather. May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. May occasionally travel between islands. motorboat. Must be able to respond to off-hours emergencies, if necessary, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

- Performs general grounds and landscape maintenance
- Performs basic routine maintenance tasks and assists with more complex diagnostic, repair and construction tasks.
- Programs thermostats for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
- Responds to online work orders & repair tickets
- Replaces and repairs plumbing fixtures
- Assists with shop carpentry tasks and projects
- Effects minor repairs to County owned marine facilities including docks, floats and boat ramps.
- Once properly trained may operate and maintain a variety of tools and motorized construction and maintenance equipment, including but not limited to: lawnmowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, table saw, cutoff saw, drills and screw guns, drill press, AC welder, oxy-acetylene welding equipment, planer, router, sander, drills, grinders air nailers, circular and reciprocating saws, airless paint sprayer, pressure washer, lift equipment and trucks.
- May direct and supervise the work of up to two community service workers
- Follows safety procedures and ensures equipment is in proper operating condition. Keeps work area clean, safe and orderly
- Uses electronic database software - maintains inventories of supply item, tools and equipment and building component conditions.
- Uses desktop computers and mobile devises - accurately reports and tracks time spent on projects and keeps manager notified of progress, change orders and all deviations from budget expenditures
- Communicates with customers, vendors and co-workers in a professional manner to facilitate positive working relationships. This requires professional writing skills and email document management.
- Acts within the scope of his or her responsibilities, working as a public employee and municipal officer with courtesy and professionalism, and adhering to the highest standard of ethics in accordance with RCW 42.52

- Work is generally in a construction environment, often outdoors and involves frequent contact with co-workers and the general public.
- Seldom sitting, frequently standing or walking occasionally lifting greater than 50#
- Dexterity in accurate safe use of power equipment
- Involves talking and hearing in person and on the phone
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to differentiate colors and read computer monitor.
