The City of Durangos Parks & Recreation Department is looking for a Senior Custodian to help keep our community spaces welcoming, safe, and well-maintained for everyone to enjoy. In this role, your duties will include maintaining the cleanliness of facilities, performing light grounds upkeep, and addressing minor repairs to keep things running smoothly. Youll also have the opportunity to mentor and guide fellow custodial workers, contributing to a skilled and positive team environment. What Youll Do in This Role:
  • Serve as shift lead for Custodial Workers, delivering training and guidance.
  • Perform custodial duties in assigned buildings, including but not limited to:
    • Vacuuming and shampooing carpets
    • Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms
    • Emptying and cleaning waste receptacles
    • Washing windows and walls
    • Dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures
    • Sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing floors and stairs
    • Replenishing supplies
  • Collect trash and recyclables from the facility and transport them to designated receptacles.
  • Move office furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Set up and take down equipment to accommodate user requests.
  • Sweep and shovel walkways and keep surrounding grounds and parking areas clean and free of litter and debris.
  • Perform snow removal duties on building sidewalks using shovels and light equipment.
  • Observe and report maintenance needs throughout the facility and grounds.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and repair tasks as needed.
  • Run errands as assigned, such as delivering equipment and picking up tools or materials.
  • Interact with the public to provide or exchange information in a professional and friendly manner.
You Have:
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of custodial or building maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, including proper carpet care and stain removal.
  • Experience operating and maintaining custodial tools and equipment such as vacuums and hand tools.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and facility users.
  • Reliability in working assigned hours, with flexibility to cover evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts as neededincluding during snow removal operations.
