CUSTODIAN / COOK'S HELPER - Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School

Sheridan County School District 2 is looking for a hard-working, dependable, and positive Custodian/Cook's Helper to join the Henry A. Coffeen Elementary team. This is an eight-hour/day (11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.), 12-month position with Wyoming Retirement System participation, benefit eligibility, and paid leave.

HOURLY WAGE: $17.15 - $20.15 depending on experience

Custodian (6 hrs./day)/Cook's Helper (2 hrs./day)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must demonstrate the ability to recognize and maintain a clean environment.
  • Must be able to read and understand the English language - i.e., chemical labels.
  • Must have the ability to cooperate with supervisors, administrators, faculty, and students.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to follow directions and complete assigned responsibilities.

STARTING WAGE: $15.65 - $18.65 depending on experience.

REPORTS TO: Head Custodian, Principal, and Supervisor of Building & Grounds.

JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times. Shovel, plow, and sand walks, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
  • Scrub and disinfect toilet floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
  • Removal of graffiti and defacing marks will be an ongoing daily requirement.
  • Clean all whiteboards and rails, window ledges, and dust fixed furniture daily.
  • Wash windows on both the inside and outside as required
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Make minor building repairs within capability levels.
  • Report major repairs needed promptly to the Head Custodian.
  • Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance.
  • Keep inventory of supplies and requisition as needed from the Head Custodian so they may be delivered in such time to not hinder the performance of custodial duties.
  • Report immediately to the Head Custodian or Principal any damage to school property.
  • Remain on the school premises during working hours, except in the event of an emergency and in such event shall notify the principal immediately (after hours notify Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds) before leaving the building.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Upper body strength to lift up to 40 pounds and carry more than 50 feet or up three flights of stairs throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the day.
  • Ability to work at heights from a ladder.
  • Ability to work around or be in contact with items that affect senses (i.e., chemicals).
  • Need to be adaptable to varying temperatures and climates encountered indoors and outdoors.

Cook's Helper

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.

REPORTS TO: Head Cook

JOB GOAL: To assist in the operation of the kitchen by doing the jobs assigned to the best of my ability and to learn other jobs so that I can be of maximum help in the operation of the lunch program and prepare myself for expanded job opportunities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assume duties and areas of responsibility as directed by the head cook.
  • Learn as many of the kitchen jobs as practical in order to be able to fill in or assist if directed by the head cook.
  • Assist in food preparation, serving, daily or special cleaning and other duties if assigned by the head cook.
  • Learn to operate certain equipment properly and to use tools in a way that is safe, efficient, sanitary and economical of time and materials.
  • Be punctual, neat, clean and ready to work and have a good attitude toward associates and all others I contact at work.
  • Strive to do my job with minimum supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
  • Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the workday.
  • Ability to reach overhead to retrieve cookware or supplies.

Placement on any of the Classified (Hourly) Wage Schedules for all new employees will be based solely on an individual's years of job-related experience:

  • School district experience (full time) = One (1) year of job-related experience equals one (1) step on the wage schedule, up to step seven (7)
  • School district experience (substitute) & non-school district experience = three (3) years of job-related experience equals one (1) step on the wage schedule, up to step seven (7)
  • placement beyond step seven (7) requires approval from the Superintendent

Upon board approval, eligible staff move one (1) step on the wage schedule annually, except in those years when the Board of Trustees sets a wage freeze due to budget constraints.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment relationship with the District is at will and of indefinite duration.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
