Job Description
SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Custodian performs unskilled labor and limited manual labor requiring physical strength and endurance. This position will include but not limited to general maintenance of the City Garage, cleaning, trash pick-up, restroom maintenance, and operating janitorial equipment. Work also includes running errands; parts pick up and unit transport.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Cleaning of building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Move furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, and ladders to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.

- City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
- City codes and ordinances.

High School diploma or equivalent is required . Must have a valid Texas Drivers License.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a valid Texas Drivers license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed primarily in an indoor work environment with some exposure to an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. May be required to climb ladders.
