Maintenance Mechanic Job Description We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to support our manufacturing operations. This position involves the setup, maintenance, and minor repair of machinery used in the extrusion of thermoplastic materials. The role requires interpreting work orders, installing dies, and ensuring the smooth operation of machinery through troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. Responsibilities Read and interpret work orders to determine setup procedures and necessary ancillary equipment to meet specifications. Install dies, machine screws, and sizing rings on extruding machines. Change and/or clean dies and screws on extruding machines according to production line changes. Perform die lip changes and roll changes, including scuffing rolls, as necessary. Perform deckle changes and position, align, and secure ancillary equipment such as shearers, slitting knives, winders, and unwinders. Troubleshoot and make minor repairs to equipment. Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area. Maintain tooling such as deckles, slitters, roll, and pump conditions. Notify maintenance of any necessary repairs or maintenance required. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and welding. Experience as a maintenance technician or automotive mechanic. Skill in diagnosing equipment and performing preventative maintenance. Understanding of mechanical principles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ideally three to six months of maintenance experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficiency in writing reports and correspondence. Ability to calculate figures and amounts; percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Understanding of basic algebra and geometry concepts. Ability to read a ruler and understand measurements in fractions and decimals. Skill in minor metal fabrication and carpentry tasks. Willingness to travel between facilities and maintain a good driving record. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to work overtime if required to meet business demands. Proficiency in using a computer, including manufacturing software. Effective communication skills with workers and supervisors. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex multi-step instructions. Skill in problem-solving in non-standardized situations with multiple variables. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position operates within a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility featuring industry-leading extrusion capabilities and quality controls. The facility consists of four buildings within the same industrial park and employs approximately 220 people. Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including safety shoes, glasses, bump caps, protective gloves, hearing protection, and other equipment as required. The dress code includes wearing a hair net and hard hat; beard guards are required for those with facial hair. The role involves working 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule, performing repetitive tasks, and occasionally working in awkward or tight spaces. Physical requirements include lifting a minimum of 50 pounds and pushing or pulling objects up to 250 pounds. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
