Salary Range: School Custodian III, WS-02 : $4,514.00 per month
Examples of Duties- Directs work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school;
- Assigns, lays out, inspects and supervises the work of subordinates to insure that buildings and grounds areas are kept in a clean and orderly condition;
- Personally performs the more difficult maintenance work to plumbing and electrical fixtures and to woodwork not requiring journey worker level trade skills;
- Supervises custodial staff in preparing for special school functions;
- Has charge of cleaning and operational maintenance of special school equipment such as swimming pools, auditoriums and loud speaker systems;
- Supervises or participates in the propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants and lawns;
- Requisitions, receives, stores and is responsible for janitorial supplies and equipment for the school assigned and takes periodic inventories of such supplies and equipment;
- Maintains records of supplies dispensed and of equipment issued;
- Makes reports on work accomplished and of unusual happenings or accidents;
- Keeps daily time sheets;
- Has security responsibility for the school;
- Turns "night lights" on and off at proper hours;
- May supervise student help when assigned;
- May operate power equipment such as power lawn mowers;
- May perform the typical duties of lower level custodians if necessary.
Experience Requirement : Applicants must have had the kind and quality of experience described below, and in the amounts shown in the following table:

General Experience : Progressively responsible work experience in one or a combination of the following areas: (a) Janitorial or related custodial work such as sweeping, dusting and cleaning of buildings; (b) Grounds maintenance work experience including such activities as cleaning, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping and raking; (c) General laboring experience such as moving materials, furniture and equipment; loading and unloading trucks; carrying, unloading and stacking tools and supplies for skilled craftsman; and digging trenches and ditches.
For School Custodian III, at least one year of the work experience must have been comparable in nature and scope to that of a School Custodian in the State service. *For the School Custodian III level, applicants must have demonstrated evidence of supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by details to supervisory positions; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in assignments; or by favorable appraisals of a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
Quality of Experience : Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he is being considered. Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.
Requirements: Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years. Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below:
A copy of the applicants TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report;
A signed letter from the applicants supervisor that includes the applicants name, his/her TA job title, the TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), his/her specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked; or,
Copies of the applicants signed SF-10 Forms.
