About:
In spring 2025, Maydan Market will open in LAs West Adams neighborhood, the first West Coast project by Rose Previte, co-owner of DCs Michelin-starred Maydan, Compass Rose, Medina, and Kirby Club restaurants. Maydan in DC first opened in 2017 drawing critical acclaim as Best New Restaurant in Bon Appetit, FOOD & WINE, and GQ, nominated by the James Beard Foundation for both Best New Restaurant and Outstanding Wine Program, and earning a Michelin star. Compass Rose opened in 2014 winning the RAMMY for best casual restaurant in the nations capital and one of the Washington Posts Favorite Places to Eat.

This new 10,000-square-foot market will be a home for small businesses to flourish, anchored by a live fire hearth, like its DC namesake restaurant. Inspired by markets from around the world, Maydan Market will bring diverse gems together under one roof including a Maydan restaurant and bar; Compass Rose, an indoor/outdoor patio bar with bites, cocktails, and natural wine; and will be home to five Los Angeles food businesses and the retail space, Sook. Each with their own distinctive cuisine and critical acclaim.

Position: Maitre D

Pay: $20-25/hr plus host tips

Reports To: FOH Management

Purpose: The MaitreD host provides leadership at the restaurant and retail-level. Under the direction of FOH management, the MaitreD directs and supports the host team members. to ensure that the Maydan host stand presents the culture and values of No White Plates, creating a positive, respectful and professional work environment for all employees.

Who You Are:
Three (3) years of experience in the direction and experience in a similar environment
Knowledge of global food, spirits, and wine
Strong background in reservation platforms, phone customer service, restaurant host skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills
High-level organizational skills with multi-tasking capabilities
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage workloads with minimal direction.
Dependable, highly motivated and high attention to detail and follow through.
Passion for the hospitality industry and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

What You Do:
Work with lead host and FOH management to lead the host stand at the No White Plates standard following all company SOPs
Actively monitor the guest experience at the table during service to provide active feedback
Understand - at expert level - all aspects of the companys ethos on customer service. . Continuously observe, evaluate, and correct as necessary all aspects of the guest experience..
Answer phone calls and emails regarding reservations, service, etc prior to service.
Ensure the facility is properly maintained and lead from the host stand during service.
Actively monitor all bar areas (dining room, bar, hearth, lounge) to ensure systems are being followed and guests are enjoying their experience.
Identify operational issues and system breakdowns. Provide feedback to the management team, and lead corrective action.
Technology and platform use - (GoTab, OpenTable, G-Suite, etc.)
Maintain strict adherence to proper food safety and sanitation procedures.
Actively manage housekeeping systems and opening and closing checklists.
Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents.
Ensure all new policies and procedures are adopted and executed in the restaurant
Set an example for positivity, professionalism and hospitality among team
Effectively train and hold accountable the host team around you under the guidance of FOH management
Work with other FOH team members to provide service to the NWP standard
Effectively communicating with management on a consistent basis
Provide clear, constructive + positive feedback and delegate tasks clearly to host team each day

Physical Requirements
Able to work 8-hour plus shifts
Able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time
Able to grasp, lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs. as needed
Finger/hand dexterity to operate bar tools and knives
Able to withstand changes in temperature, steam and heat
Able to work in a confined area
Must possess hearing, visual and sensory abilities to observe and detect emergency situations; also, to distinguish product, taste, texture, temperature, presentation and preparation
