**Middle School Maintenance Job Description**
Shift: Evening Shift I (2:30pm 11:00pm)
**Areas of Responsibility:** 1st, 2nd floor & 3rd floor North and west
corridors and offices/classrooms on these corridor areas All rooms,
corridors and classrooms on designated floors/areas. North and south
staircases. Bathrooms: Boys and Girls Locker rooms, Gym office
bathrooms, 2nd floor bathrooms by SE corner.
***\*Trash*** - Empty all garbage cans from areas of responsibility
daily. This includes garbage pails in areas and bathrooms that are not
part of normal responsibility i.e. 1st floor lobby bathrooms and extra
cafeteria garbage and bathrooms. Supply new liners as needed. All cans
shall be kept clean.
***\*Classrooms and Corridors -*** Vacuum/Sweep all corridors and
classrooms daily.
\- Mop floors as needed. All spills should be mopped up on a daily
basis. Corridors should be mopped more often especially during the
winter. Corridors should be buffed/burnished as time allows and during
school breaks. Corridors to be scrubbed and re-coated during school
break if scheduling permits.
\- High dusting (doors, signs, pictures, moldings etc.) bi-monthly or as
needed, and wash windows and sills as needed.
\- Wipe walls as needed and/or as time allows.
**\**Stairs*** Stairs should be inspected each night for cleanliness.
Stairs should be vacuumed, at least, every other day and more often
during stormy and wintry weather. Stairs should be mopped on a weekly
basis and possibly more during inclement weather. New stains should be
mopped up daily. Stair rails, banisters, balusters etc. should be
wiped/washed down monthly.
***\*Bathrooms***- All bathrooms in areas of responsibility.
Clean/disinfect bathroom fixtures and mop bathroom floors daily. Check
paper supply daily. Clean walls and partitions as needed.
**\*Water fountains** All water fountains in areas of responsibility
must be cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis.
***\*Gymnasium area*** Gym floor should be dust-mopped/shagged each
night. However, due to the high volume of activities during the school
year this task is not always easy to accomplish. Often times, the people
in charge of after school activities in the gym help to maintain this
part of the maintenance for the gym floor. Nevertheless, the maintenance
person in charge of this area should do all they can to work around the
activity schedule of the gym to make sure everything gets done. This
also includes spot mopping spills as needed and auto-scrubbing (or, if
preferred mopping) the floor when needed. Perimeter of gym should be
vacuumed to prevent dust build-up as needed.
The entire gym lobby area should be vacuumed on a daily basis and mopped
as needed.
Locker room floors should be swept/vacuumed cleaned at least a couple of
times a week and mopped once a week or more if needed. Locker room
bathrooms should be cleaned daily.
\*Lock up all (check all windows) exterior doors by end of shift and
activate (arm) alarm system when leaving unoccupied building at end of
shift.
\*All maintenance employees are expected to remove snow when called
upon. Some weekends and holidays may apply. Employee needs to contact
Maintenance Director directly if employee is unable to come in for snow
removal.
\*Job may entail some lifting (other than snow removal) of loads up to,
and around, 50 pounds.
\*Attend to any other requests by Maintenance Director and/or
administration. If a request cannot be met, Maintenance Director should
be notified by the beginning of the employees next shift.
\*Summer work to include, but not be limited to, stripping/or scrubbing
and recoating of school floors along with other maintenance personnel.
\*All maintenance employees should be mindful, that while we are
resp onsible for the care and upkeep of the buildings within the school
district, we are also in constant contact with the students, staff and
public on a daily basis. Present yourselves as pleasant and respectful
as possible while they are in the buildings or on school grounds. Our
impression to all is VERY IMPORTANT!
Any issues with a particular student, staff member or the public should
be directed to the Director of Maintenance and/or administration.
