Under close supervision, performs a variety of custodial functions and assists in maintaining City facilities and grounds in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Assists in ensuring professional, safe facilities for the community.
Operates and uses a variety of equipment and products performing manual labor tasks to clean and maintain City facilities and grounds; duties will vary according to job assignment and location.
Empties wastebaskets and recycling containers and replaces bin liners; breaks down cardboard boxes and transports to recycling bins; cleans desks, tables and chairs.
Cleans, scrubs, mops, dusts, and disinfects restrooms, common areas, offices, and hallways including floors, walls, dividers, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and sinks.
Replenish supply, stock areas and keep inventory records. Must maintain common storage areas safe and clear of obstructions.
Performs routine facility custodial maintenance such as light bulb changing and vacuum cleaner bag replacement.
Vacuums and stain removal of carpeted floors; performs routine vacuuming of meeting room chairs and HVAC vents.
Picks up paper and debris from facility grounds.
May be required to assist in room set ups and breakdowns.
Performs assigned duties in setting-up and breaking down for meetings and events.
May be required to operate motor vehicle to transport material or staff to assignments.
Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
Transports books, supplies, and materials to various locations as required.
Works well in a structured, work order based system in a recordkeeping environment.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent, AND one year of commercial custodial maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Required Knowledge of:
- Basic tools and equipment used in custodial maintenance.
- City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions relative to custodial work and the use of cleaning agents.
Required Skill in:
Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written for positive relationships with employees, citizens, and the general public; ability to read and follow instruction effectively through written and/or verbal means.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and extreme temperatures, with exposure to hazardous chemicals and equipment.
- Requires continuous physical efforts for extended periods including standing, walking and bending, and ability to climb ladders and to safely lift, carry, and move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift.
- May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
