Receptionist/Office Clerk @ Transportation

Primary Purpose:

  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the transportation department.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Must have an Associate's Degree or have a minimum of 48 semester hours of higher education coursework or pass a district test
  • Hold a valid class C driver's license preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Bilingual preferred
  • Proficient in basic office computer applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions
  • Ability to meet established deadlines
  • Demonstrate proper phone etiquette
  • Knowledgeable of safety requirements for office operation
  • Ability to work with people

Experience:

  • None

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Phones

  • Operate department switchboard and receive and direct incoming calls, take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.
  • Greet visitors (e.g. public, parents, students, vendors, employees, etc.) respond to their inquiries and/or direct them to appropriate personnel in accordance with district policies and procedures regarding building security.
  • Respond to emergency calls and notify appropriate parties to address immediate safety and/or security issues.

Clerical Support

  • Distribute and file all bus behavior reports.
  • Assist in the input of driver and attendant absences.
  • Receive documents and disseminate materials and information to the appropriate parties.
  • Provide clerical assistance as needed.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.

Other

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Non-Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; district vehicle

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery, hard or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

2025-2026 Salary Range Min. $26,078 Mid. $31,118 Max. $36,159 (Based on previous experience)

Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.
