Shift Lead

Job Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $20$24/hour + tips (DOE)

Position Summary:
The Shift Lead at Unique Boba Flavors LLC is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing store operations during scheduled shifts. This team member ensures exceptional customer service, a smooth and efficient workflow, and a clean, safe cafe environment.
Shift Leads are expected to actively participate in daily operations whether stepping behind the bar to make drinks, assisting at the register during a rush, or supporting new team members with training. You will be the point person during your shift, modeling professionalism, care, and hustle.

Key Responsibilities:

Shift Operations & Leadership:
Oversee day-to-day operations during scheduled shifts, including managing staff workflow and customer flow.
Assign team roles and adjust coverage dynamically during high-volume times.
Ensure daily opening and closing duties are completed, including accurate cash handling and POS reconciliation.
Act as the designated leader on duty, resolving issues as they arise and escalating to the manager if needed.

Hands-On Service:
Jump in to make drinks or take orders during rushes - this is a working leadership role.
Maintain speed, quality, and consistency in drink preparation according to company standards.
Proactively support team morale by leading through example during busy or stressful periods.

Customer Engagement & Conflict Resolution:
Provide exceptional guest service and assist with customer concerns in a friendly, solution-oriented manner.
Ensure customer orders are fulfilled accurately and timely, with attention to dietary needs or customizations.

Health & Safety Compliance:
Enforce proper food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
Maintain clean, organized prep, bar, and customer-facing areas throughout the shift.
Monitor product quality and freshness, including boba pearls and toppings.

Inventory Support:
Track and restock inventory during the shift; report any shortages or issues to the Store Manager.
Assist in receiving deliveries, ensuring items are properly labeled and rotated using FIFO standards.

Team Development:
Provide in-the-moment coaching, feedback, and support to baristas and boba tea makers.
Help onboard and train new hires, sharing product knowledge and customer service techniques.
Promote a respectful, inclusive team environment.

Required Qualifications:
Must be 18 years or older (required for shift leadership roles under CA law).
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cafe, food service, or fast-casual environment.
Comfortable stepping in to make drinks or take orders during busy periods.
Strong leadership, communication, and time-management skills.
Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours) and lift up to 40 lbs.
Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a Shift Lead, Keyholder, or Assistant Manager role.
Food Handler Card (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
ServSafe Manager Certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).
Familiarity with POS systems such as Square, Clover, or Toast.
Enthusiasm for boba culture and interest in seasonal drink development.

oStanding, bending, reaching, and light-to-moderate lifting.
Requires the ability to multitask and maintain calm under pressure.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including peak business times (weekends and holidays).
