About the Role: The primary function of the Custodian is to maintain the cleanliness of interiors and various office and industrial facilities at the Brightwater Treatment Plant. This is a great opportunity for an individual who likes a variety of work, working with a diverse team that supports the Operations and Maintenance of the Brightwater Treatment Plant and Education Center. The successful applicant will work to help the Wastewater Treatment Division maintain a healthy environment for wastewater treatment personnel of King County.
This position will be filled as a Term Limited Temporary (TLT) or Special Duty Assignment (SDA) and is anticipated to last for up to 12 months with the possibility of extension. About the Team: Brightwater is part of King Countys regional wastewater system and serves parts of north King County and south Snohomish County. The plant is located just north of Woodinville and is King Countys newest regional wastewater treatment facility. It features an educational and event center, natural areas and hiking trails, and public art. The facility is nationally recognized for its award-winning design and its consistent compliance with state and federal discharge limits.
The Brightwater Plant has approximately 70 employees who operate and maintain the plant. The plant also serves as a worksite for contraction management personnel and administrative staff. The Custodian will primarily work independently yet will be supported by Utility Workers and regularly interact with all team members around the plant. It has a diverse workforce dedicated to supporting the mission of the Wastewater Treatment Division by safely operating and maintaining the facility to comply with environmental regulations.

- Strip, wax and scrub various types of floors; vacuum and extract dirt from carpets and machine-buff floors.
- Clean, stock and sanitize lunchrooms, restrooms and elevators including tables, chairs, toilets, showers, sinks and walls.
- As directed, mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals.
- Dust, wash and vacuum surfaces.
- Request and stock various types of supplies.
- Empty trash.
- Clean glass windows and surfaces
- May research and prepare bid specifications for cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial cleaning techniques
- Knowledge in the use and care of cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of basic safety rules and procedures to ensure the safety of yourself and co-workers.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals
- Effective communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Required Licenses
- Valid Washington State Driver's License
- One (1) or more years of recent professional industrial cleaning/janitorial work experience.
- Work Location : Brightwater Treatment Plant - 22505 State Route 9 S.E., Woodinville, WA 98072
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. Work hours are 6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday with the option of alternative work schedule with approval of supervisor.
- Union Representation : This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division)
- TLT/SDA Duration: This recruitment aims to fill a Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position with an anticipated duration up to 12 months with possibility of extension . If the position is filled by a King County employee who has successfully completed their initial probation, they will be offered the role as a Special Duty Assignment.
- Physical Requirement : Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, use ladders, and there is exposure to hazardous chemicals and noxious odors. A pre-employment physical, review of driving record and reference checks will be conducted prior to any final job offer.
