Orion Bar is a Korean & American bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn serving up Korean spirits, signature twists on classic cocktails, and a soju, beer, & wine program, served alongside unique Korean American bar snacks and late night food. Featured in Eater, Brooklyn Magazine, and New York Times. We are looking for an experienced Line Cook to join our BOH team.
Role
We're looking for a skilled and passionate line cook whose responsibilities include prep, setting up, and executing our menu with precision and consistency in a small, self-managed kitchen by themself. The line cook supports and reports to the Executive Chef / Owner.
Applicants must have attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and willingness to work within a team.
We're open to full time and part time availability, but ideally looking for someone who can work at least 3-4 late afternoon-late night shifts between Wednesday through Sunday.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, cook, and plate dishes across various stations according to established recipes and standards
- Ensure that all food products are handled, stored, and prepared safely and in accordance with food safety regulations
- Maintain mise en place levels and communicate inventory needs
- Monitor kitchen equipment and report any maintenance issues to management
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment
- Uphold cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, adhering to sanitation and hygiene standards at all times
- Perform opening prep and/or closing cleaning duties
- Prepare family meal for small team (three to six people)
Qualifications:
- Proven experience working as a line cook in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with at least 2 years of experience
- Experience working on the line and understands setup and breakdown of stations, including plancha and fryer
- Knowledge of or interest in Korean cuisine is a plus
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
- Culinary degree or relevant certification preferred, but not required
- Food handler's license required
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to lift/carry up to 40 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods of time
Compensation:
$22-24/hour depending on experience
