The department The Marin County Juvenile Hall, under the administration of the Marin County Probation Department, serves as a secure facility for youth detained due to involvement in criminal activities. The hall provides a structured and supportive environment where juveniles receive education, counseling, and rehabilitation programs. The goal is to address the underlying issues leading to delinquent behavior, support positive development, and prepare the youth for successful reintegration into the community, while also ensuring public safety. The probation department oversees these efforts, working closely with families, schools, and community organizations to promote the well-being and rehabilitation of the detained youth.
The Housekeeper position at Marin County Juvenile Hall is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment throughout the facility. This role supports daily operations by performing a variety of housekeeping duties in key areas, including the kitchen, dining hall, restrooms, offices, and common areas. Responsibilities include laundering clothing and linens, conducting supply inventories, restocking items as needed, unloading deliveries, cleaning and maintaining floors through sweeping, mopping, and waxing, and disposing of trash and recyclable materials. The housekeeper is also responsible for cleaning kitchen equipment and utensils, maintaining sanitation in food preparation areas, and occasionally assisting with meal service. The position may involve supervising and training detained youth in housekeeping tasks to promote life skills and personal responsibility. Groundskeeping around the facility exterior may also be required. Working in a secure juvenile facility, the housekeeper must maintain professionalism, ensure compliance with all safety protocols, and model appropriate behavior when interacting with youth
There is currently one (1) full-time (75 bi-weekly hours) vacancy in Juvenile Hall. The eligible list will also be used to fill future vacancies (regular, fixed term, full-time, part-time, contingent) in all County departments that have a Housekeeper position. Our Highly Qualified Candidate: The ideal candidate has a background in professional housekeeping with a particular focus on high volume laundry services. They are willing and able to provide directions to detainees on daily housekeeping tasks, are comfortable working in a secured juvenile hall facility which operates 24/7 and can be flexible when it comes to working a nontraditional shift schedule.Qualifications
Knowledge of
- Modern housekeeping equipment.
- Sanitation materials and procedures.
- Modern laundry equipment and procedures.
- Infection control procedures and requirements.
- Sanitary kitchen upkeep and clean up procedures.
- Cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Washing and wearing quality of fabrics.
- Mending techniques.
- Clerical record keeping methods sufficient to keep inventory of supplies.
- Instruct others in maintenance and housekeeping procedures.
- Detect evidence of misuse, improper care, or improper maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Establish work methods, techniques, standards, procedures, and schedules.
- Evaluate and rate the work of assistants.
- Implement policies relating to custodial maintenance activity.
- Establish schedules for processing clean linen.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted during the performance of duties.
- Follow oral and written instructions in English.
- Follow proscribed institutional security procedures.
- Perform physical work (lifting and moving heavy items - up to 50lbs) in an environment that includes exposure to commercial cleaning solvents commonly used in institutional housekeeping.
One year of professional Housekeeper (preferably in an institutional setting) experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities.
