2nd Shift Custodian/Maintenance Technician

Scott County Catholic Schools is seeking a driven Custodian/Maintenance Technician to maintain the Building and Grounds of our schools. Ensuring a safe and clean environment for all students, faculty, staff, volunteers, and parents.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Maintenance

1. Repair minor plumbing, electrical, or carpentry issues as they arise.

2. Orders and stocks paper products, hand soaps, cleaning products, cleaning supplies, plastic products, light bulbs, materials, and parts for repairs, etc. with prior approval.

3. Make sure mechanical systems (such as the boiler) are ready for building operations.

4. Perform necessary mechanical repairs.

B. Preventative Maintenance

1. Perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical systems such as boilers, furnaces, refrigerators, freezers, exhaust fans, kitchen exhaust units, air conditioners, wall units, and water heaters. Work consists of items such as:

a. Cleaning

b. Changing belts

c. Cleaning or changing ?lters.

d. Lubricating

e. Draining water heaters and removing lime deposits clean furnaces and boilers. This process may involve some general removal of panels.

f. Clean air conditioning units.

g. Removing exhaust fan covers to clean, repair, and inspect.

h. Covering exhaust fan for gym during the winter.

C. Cleaning

1. General repair and upkeep responsibilities for all of the school facilities.

2. Keep mechanical rooms, janitor’s closets, storage rooms, rectory garages, and shed clean and in order.

3. Clean all hallway shelves and locker tops.

4. Clean main restrooms (?xtures, partitions, ?oors, glass, walls, trash. Re-stock hand soap and tissue) as needed after the previous evening’s activities.

5. Clean front offices (main, principal’s, etc.), including rest room, staff room, main carpeted foyer, and carpet just inside on Mary said of foyer.

6. Clean building entry door glass and windows

7. Cafeteria cleanup sporadically throughout lunch times (take out the trash multiple times and clean trash cans and glass by doors, as needed).

8. Disinfect and clean water fountains daily.

9. Spray disinfectant on doorknobs and handrails.

10. Recycling, as needed and coordinated with student/staff initiatives.

11. Clean classroom entry door glass and windows by doors.

12. Do laundry for damp mops, dust mops, and rags.

13. Clean all classrooms (including library), restrooms, and other areas not included in day custodian’s duties.

14. Vacuuming.

15. Dust mopping the tile ?oor.

16. Remove trash from classrooms.

D. Outside and Setup

1. Pick up trash and branches that may be encountered.

2. Inspect the playgrounds and document the inspection on the appropriate form for the school and pre-school.

3. Inspect all pest traps and care for them as appropriate.

4. Inspect all restroom facilities for areas needing repair and extra cleaning attention.

5. Take care of weeds and landscaping issues related to the school side of the campus, except for the area right around the parish center.

6. Snow shoveling, clearing, and shoveling.

E. Maintain Current Stickers and Tags

1. Schedule, deal with, and assist inspection people such as EPA, OSHA, State, Fire Department, Boiler, HV/AC, pest control for the inspections or maintenance of items including, but not limited to the following:

a. Water sprinkler system

b. Fire alarms

c. Fire extinguishers

d. Boilers

e. Water heaters

f. Fire suppression systems

g. Radon tests

h. Water testing

i. Asbestos management plan updates

j. Exhaust fans and hoods

k. Door systems

l. A/C systems

F. Monthly and Yearly Maintenance

1. Check all ?re extinguishers, smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors.

2. Perform a walk-through inspection of all buildings, rooms, and equipment recording any necessary repairs needed to be done by staff or others.

3. Check and clean, if necessary, all gutters, down-spouts, and scuppers where accessible.

4. Clean all windows in the school. Most windows are cleaned more often.

5. Inspect roofs for debris or damage where accessible.

6. Cover the gym exhaust fan for winter. Open it for spring.

7. Clean cold air return grates and radiator covers.

G. Other Professional Responsibilities

1. Note any repairs needed and document them if they can’t be done by custodial staff and arrange for the repairs to be conducted by an outside agent, and work with or consult with the outside agent.

2. Maintain disaster preparedness, including ensuring that supply kits have batteries and working flashlights, and the emergency water supply is stocked and refreshed regularly.

3. Stock cleaning carts with supplies.

H. Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
