Custodian/Maintenance Utility
Position Summary
The Custodian/Maintenance Utility position is responsible for ensuring district facilities are clean, organized, and safe. This role involves a range of cleaning, maintenance, and repair tasks to support daily operations, special events, seasonal projects, and emergency needs. Collaboration with the custodial team, maintenance staff, and building personnel is essential to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and the community.
Job Title: Custodian/Maintenance Utility
Hourly Wage: $18.50/hr.
Hours: 3:30 P.M. - 12:00 A.M.
Reports To : Operations and Custodial Manager
Wage/Hour Status : Non-Exempt

Minimum Qualifications :
- High school diploma or GED, preferred.
- Ability to read basic operating instructions.
- Demonstrates a reasonable degree of computer proficiency.
- May be required to possess and maintain a valid Class C Non-Commercial Driver’s License, contingent upon building assignment and successful completion of a motor vehicle record (MVR) check.
- This position requires that the individual is able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Successful candidates are subject to post-offer pre-employment physical.
Essential Functions
Facility Cleaning and Maintenance
- Cleans facilities and grounds (e.g. classrooms, restrooms, gyms, cafeteria, offices, pools, sports fields, multipurpose rooms, etc.).
- Performs minor maintenance on custodial and facility equipment (e.g. belts, bags, furniture repair).
- Assists with general maintenance (e.g. mowing, snow removal).
- Performs summer projects (e.g. strip/wax floors, painting, moving furniture).
- Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies.
Safety and Security
- Monitors work areas to ensure site safety.
- Secures buildings and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights).
- Responds to facility damage, vandalism, or emergencies.
- Ensures safety protocol compliance.
- Operates district vehicles when required.
Daily Operations and Preparation
- Prepares campus for daily use (e.g. open gates, sweep walkways, raise flags)
- Sets up/takes down furniture and equipment for school events
- Assists with special campus activities and functions
Collaboration and Communication
- Builds effective relationships with staff, students, families, and community.
- Informs personnel about activities, safety concerns, and equipment use.
- Responds to inquiries or concerns and directs appropriately.
- Interprets and enforces custodial policies.
Other Functions
- Participates in professional development and training.
- Demonstrates initiative and works independently.
- Maintains confidentiality and integrity.
- Supports district goals and policies.
- Attends work regularly to avoid operational disruptions.
- Responds to emergencies and ensures safe practices.
- May be part of an on-call rotation (Maintenance Utility).
- Other related duties as assigned.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress. Successful candidate is subject to post-offer pre-employment physical.
