Food Service Worker Senior (FOOD SVC WORKER SR)

Job Summary

Coordinate and execute various tasks pertaining to (front-of-house) guest experience satisfaction and some food preparation duties. Ensure all service areas are cleaned, organized, visually appealing and products in the dining room are fully stocked and available to guests before, during and after the meal service. Perform a variety of cleaning, stocking, organizing, preparing, displaying & arranging responsibilities as they relate to food service & as assigned. Stock dining room utensils, dishes, napkins, beverage cups, salt & pepper shakers & perform other dining room attendant duties as assigned. Cut plate and/or frost baked goods to serve at dessert station, maintain accurate records of production for dessert items & taste changers at the dessert station using the Production Sheets Report. Stock & replenish beverages at stations, cereal/ granolas, ice creams, whole fruits, soups, at various stations & self-service bars. Help receive, stock, & rotate product. Provide training to staff. Guide, delegate & assign a wide range of tasks to student assistants. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma and / or equivalent certification / experience / training
  • Experience using customer service skills to cooperate with public and other staff members and convey a helpful, positive attitude.
  • Experience using interpersonal skills to work effectively with and provide excellent customer service to a diverse campus community; communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

  • Knowledge of proper procedures for lifting, handling broken glass and skill to use wet floor signs when mopping floors or cleaning up spills. Skill to verify proper concentration of sanitized solution using test strips.
  • Skills to communicate in English, both orally and in written form to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and guests.
  • Skill to guide a wide range of tasks to student assistants and kitchen support staff. Skill to differentiate products' composition, biodegradability, nutrition, etc.
  • Skill to maintain a sanitary, safe and organized personal work area. Ability to check food temperatures throughout all HACCP steps including food preparation, meal service, and storage; complete HACCP logs, date, label and store all foods. Skill to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment [PPE].

Preferred Qualifications
  • Culinary experience and/or equivalent training in a high-volume, industrial culinary environment.
  • Experience with culinary techniques, including but not limited to sauteing, grilling, frying, steaming, and preparing sauces and stocks. Skill to taste and discern; product quality, read and interpret recipes and menus, estimate ingredient requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and request supplies and equipment.
  • Problem solving skills to troubleshoot problems as they arise, find alternate solutions, and implement solutions in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Arithmetic skills to increase or decrease recipe yields and to convert standard culinary measurements. Skill to check recipes, recognize problems and make corrections as needed.
  • Skill to prepare complex recipes and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Knowledge of cuisines from varying customer bases, including Regional American, Asian, Italian and Mexican, Vegetarian, Vegan.

Student Housing, Dining Services is a self-supporting auxiliary which provides housing and food service operations to undergraduate and graduate students who live in campus facilities. For more information about Student Housing visit our website at Services is comprised of residential dining (3 dining commons serving a combined average of 5,900 meals per day), retail operations (over 15 outlets of; local convenience stores, branded concepts and food trucks) a campus catering operation serving special events across campus, and an onsite campus commissary and bakery where local goods and ready to eat products are produced.

    Work Environment

    UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
