Position Statement:
This position plays a critical role in helping to keep our facility in its best condition, which in turn provides a higher level of patient care. This position completes an array of duties and often requires flexibility and willingness to do whatever needs to be done. This position will be in and around the hospital departments performing a variety of environmental services duties to maintain the hospital in a neat, orderly, and sanitary manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine floor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing various types of flooring including hardwood. carpet and tile. A regular schedule will be needed for these tasks to ensure cleanliness and longevity of floors.
- Operate and maintain equipment like buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and other cleaning tools to perform floor cleaning and maintenance tasks. The Floor Technician should also carry out regular checks to ensure that the equipment is in good working order.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and standards during the performance of tasks to ensure a safe work environment. This includes the proper use of personal protective equipment and proper handling and storage of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Perform minor repair tasks such as fixing loose tiles or addressing minor damages to carpeting. In addition, regular preventative maintenance, such as applying sealants or floor finishes, should be undertaken to prolong the life of floors.
- Respond promptly to emergencies related to floor maintenance. This may include cleaning up spills to prevent slips and falls, or addressing more significant damages that may pose safety risks.
- Regularly inspect flooring for signs of damage or wear and report these to the appropriate personnel. The Floor Technician should strive to ensure that all flooring surfaces are clean, safe and aesthetically pleasing.
- Communicate effectively with other staff members, guest and management. Handle any questions or complaints regarding floor maintenance courteously and professionally and provide high levels of customer service.
- Keep all work areas clean and organized, including storage areas for cleaning supplies and equipment. This not only ensures a safe work environment but also contributes to overall facility cleanliness.
- Prioritize tasks effectively to ensure that all areas as needed and in a timely manner. This may include creating a schedule or plan for regular maintenance tasks.
- Participate in ongoing training and development activities to ensure up to date knowledge and skills in floor care and maintenance. This may include learning about new cleaning agents or equipment or refreshing knowledge on safety protocols.
- Always operate in a manner that minimizes disruption to guests, aiming to carry out tasks during low traffic periods when possible and responding promptly and courteously to any guest inquiries or complaints.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read write, and follow written or oral instructions.
- Three to six months of on-the-job and/or related experience are normally sufficient.
- Ability to show up to work consistently and on time.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
