Event Captain
About the Role
Seaport Entertainment is looking for an Event Captain that will be responsible for delivering exceptional service and overseeing the execution of premium events with precision and elegance across all New York SEG locations. Reporting directly to the Event Operations Manager, this role serves as a liaison between the sales team, service staff, management, and clients on the day of event. The captain facilitates and actively supports all aspects of event operations, ensuring the highest level of hospitality, service, and client satisfaction. This individual will ensure that the event is delivered to the client's expectations and as per the BEO. The captain receives the event paperwork and orchestrates the plan to set up each element on time, execute the event operationally from start to finish, and ensure the flow of guests and staff through the duration of the event successfully.
What You Will Do
Execute events from end to end at a premier level of excellence and hospitality, while ensuring guest satisfaction, anticipating and accommodating guest needs
Maintain polished, presentable and neat appearance at all times while exhibiting refined service etiquette
Review event information paperwork from the Sales and Operations teams (menus, timelines, set up, beverage packages, av needs, vendor load in and load out, etc.)
Cross-check event paperwork to ensure consistency between the menu, details and execution
Work collaboratively with event sales team, clients, staff, and managers including Chefs to ensure seamless execution of events
Assign and oversee tasks and responsibilities of staff, ensuring efficient workflow
Ensure all standards are met maintained including delivering exceptional hospitality and guest experience
Actively facilitate training of event staff
Execute the event setup in conjunction with house people, culinary and management, making sure all client and venue needs are met
Welcome host, discuss scope of event with onsite host, make introductions and be main point of contact for host throughout event
Communicate with culinary, to ensure all food-related requirements are met on time and presented in an elevated way
Transition staff from assignment to assignment as necessitated by the event timeline
Address and resolve guest concerns promptly and escalate through appropriate channels where applicable
Maintain inventory of event supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and propre condition
Ensure consistent adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards
Oversee breakdown of event so that all items are returned and the integrity of the items are kept intact
Report on event success/opportunities through the event report
Make sure that the POS check matches the BEO and all payments are final
Communicate any staff and/or client issues in a prompt and thorough manner through appropriate channels
Lead pre-service meetings, trainings, or departmental meetings.
Operate ethically to protect the assets and image of the company
Be a collaborative team player
Performs other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as per business need
About You
Minimum 2 years' experience in an event/banquet operations role preferably within luxury setting in an upscale, high-end environment
Exceptional guest service and hospitality skills with experience managing high profile events and VIP clientele
Detail oriented, proactive, with a refined sense of service and ability to perform gracefully under pressure
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage strict timelines
Strong work ethic and guest-focused approach
Ability to handle guest requests, complaints, and concerns in an efficient, calm, and genuine manner
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an everchanging, fast-paced environment
Ability to communicate effectively and eloquently, both verbal and written, across all levels within the organization
Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to stand for prolong periods of time.
Ability to move on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, climb steps regularly, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
Compensation: $40 - 45 per hour
