COMPENSATION: $17 per hour
Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned
Respond to direction given by Head Custodian, Shift Leader or Supervisor
Is responsible for performing custodial work required for routine cleaning, upkeep, and/or operation of school buildings assigned to his/her care
Provide services, arrangements and equipment as requested to aid instructional staff and groups using school facilities
Routine room cleaning as scheduled
Empty pencil sharpener, clean chalkboards and erasers
Collect, bag or dispose of waste as directed
Maintain security of building by locking windows and checking to make sure the exterior doors are locked, and also lock necessary interior doors
Clean and service drinking fountains, kitchens, cafeterias, pools, locker/shower room facilities and toilet rooms
Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, maps, screens, fixtures, walls, window sills, doors, trim and related furnishings
Mop, sweep and scrub floors, stairs and renew floor finishes
Turn off unnecessary lighting and make sure the security lights are on
Wash all interior glass, partitions, framed pictures, doors, etc.
Wash and/or clean exterior window and door glass
Wash and/or clean light fixtures
Replace incandescent and fluorescent lamps
Move furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment as directed
Clean and wax furniture
Perform ground duties such as shoveling snow and removing ice, sweeping walks, mowing and raking lawns, trimming foliage and cultivating evergreen beds

Keep cleaning equipment, supplies and custodial rooms in a clean, orderly fashion at all times
Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding and/or swing stages and window jacks
Report, in writing, to the Head Custodian all items that will require attention immediately or in the near future
Must be able to operate custodial service equipment and other job related equipment
Regular and predictable attendance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Maintain a good attendance record and job commitment
Applicant shall have such training, skills, and experience necessary to perform the requirements of the position
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to move about the building. The employee frequently uses cleaning materials and equipment to perform the job. They must be able to constantly position themselves to move furniture, clean lockers, wax floors, sweep under desks, and clean all necessary areas in the building. The employee must regularly lift up to 50 lbs. and/or individually push or pull up to 100 lbs. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. Being able to observe and identify their surroundings as well as exchange accurate information with coworkers and supervisors are frequently required duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with staff and occasionally with the public. The employee is directly responsible for the security of all district buildings.
