Introduction

Main Purpose of Job

Employees in this classification perform general maintenance tasks, such as simple construction, preventative maintenance, improvements and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures, mechanical equipment, grounds and roadways.\n

POSITION DUTIES

Perform general maintenance tasks such as simple construction,\npreventive maintenance, improvements, and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures,\nmechanical equipment, grounds, and roadways. Employee may be required to\ncheck and service converter units; repair, service, and inspect door locks,\nhousekeeping equipment, furniture, and safety equipment; assist with making\nrepairs to HVAC air handler units and related equipment; perform daily\npreventive maintenance checks to ensure proper operation of all equipment;\ninstall, replace, or repair water fountains, restroom fixtures, broken piping,\ngaskets, valves, and other plumbing related equipment as necessary; repair or\nmove furniture, put up or repair drywall, hang doors, replace windows and\nwindow panes, install cabinets, and/or other carpentry related tasks as\nnecessary; apply finish and/or paint to completed projects; perform security\nfunctions; ensure buildings and gates are locked each day as required.\nPreference will be given to applicants who are able to lift 50 lbs. or more and\nassist with snow removal on the campus.\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

\nEducation: Eighth grade.\n\n\nExperience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years ofexperience areprimarily in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steamfittings, refrigeration or air-conditioning.\n\n\nNotes:\n1. Candidatesmay substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.\n\n\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related fieldfor the required experience.\n\n\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\n\n\n\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Willing to learn\nAmerican Sign Language.\n\n\nAble to lift 50 lbs.\nor more.\n\n\nAble to assist with snow\nremoval on the campus.\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
