DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWFacilities Management’s (FM) Building Services Division is a large and diverse team, working with campus departments to provide custodial services & maintenance, including window washing and floor re-finishing and maintenance, utilizing environmentally sustainable cleaning methods to over 10 million maintainable gross square feet of facilities. These buildings consist of science and medical teaching/research laboratories, clinical buildings, classrooms, hallways, common areas, restrooms, offices, shops and waiting rooms. Our goal is to ensure a campus environment that is clean and healthy, conducive to teaching, learning, research and administrative, the University’s primary purpose. Building Services also works with campus departments to ensure that facilities are at their best for campus events. Building Services works with campus facilities and planning offices at the design phase to ensure that new construction and renovations provide adequate custodial staff and space for custodial closets and supplies storage. Upon completion of construction/renovation, custodial staff will prepare the space for occupation by its tenants. FM Building Services maximizes use of supplies and equipment to insure efficiency and conservation of funds within the department and strives to maintain and clean the facilities in a cost-effective method for economical well-being. In accordance with the campus focus on sustainability, FM Building Services strives to reduce the environmental impacts of cleaning products, disposable janitorial paper products, and trash bags by researching, and testing new green products.
POSITION DESCRIPTIONPerform semi-skilled and skilled cleaning and general maintenance duties for a variety of facilities on campus including, but not limited to: classrooms, laboratories, auditoriums, gymnasiums, surgical/clinical rooms, restrooms, lounges, hallways, stairs, etc. Sweep, mop, finish, dust, clean and/or polish all floor surfaces. Clean and disinfect restrooms, shower and/or locker rooms. Empty and clean wastebaskets, ashtrays and other waste receptacles. Work with building occupants to answer questions regarding custodial or special set up services performed. Effectively work with campus customers and custodial team members to accomplish work with a high level of quality and efficiency. Build and maintain strong customer and team relations through a professional and helpful approach in handling customers’ needs and problems.
QUALIFICATIONSSix (6) months of experience performing cleaning in a custodial cleaning operation or large multi-facility environment.
Experience operating wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbers, polishers, and carpet cleaners, and/or steam extractors to perform comprehensive floor care including, but not limited to: stripping, waxing and buffing hard and resilient floors as well as shampooing carpeted areas.
Experience with disinfection, sanitation and cleaning methods required of public restrooms, surgical and/or clinical laboratories.
Experience in securing a building, including responsibility of keys; familiarity with use of commercial door locks, panic hardware, and hold-open devices.
Experience implementing proper and safe chemical use and mixture. Knowledge of and experience using and testing environmentally safe and sustainable cleaning methods and green products. Ability to provide input and make suggestions to improve work methods and products.
Must be flexible and able to effectively adjust to changing operational priorities requiring assignment of special projects and/or different area assignments as necessary.
Customer service experience; work history demonstrates experience providing customer service and customer communication in a cleaning, housekeeping and/or general building maintenance environment.
Basic computer skills to check email, enter time and material data and to complete electronic records.
Must be physically able to consistently perform job duties.
DMV, DOJ and FBI background checks and clearances required prior to hire.
Must possess and maintain valid CA Driver's License.
Ability to work in morgues/gross anatomy/pathological laboratories where human/animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of the worker. May be required to work in vicinity of labs contaminated with biohazardous radioactive substances.
Must be able to work in all areas of Campus.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $41,864 - $52,075 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $20.05 - $24.94
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
