Maintenance Worker - Street Department
**Salary:**
$14.53/hr (Level I)
$15.66/hr (Level II with CDL
**POSITION DESCRIPTION:**
The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repairs to City property and streets. Employees in this position perform all work according to established safety standards, codes, and regulations applicable to the work.
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.
- Performs a variety of routine custodial and grounds maintenance tasks, e.g., edging, mowing, trimming, waste and litter removal, planting, etc.
- May perform minor maintenance and repairs on structures, facilities, equipment, streets, sidewalks and other City property in one or more of the skilled and semi-skilled disciplines
- Operates a wide variety of light and medium equipment and machinery, e.g., automobile, pickup truck, dump truck, roller, bucket truck, forklift, backhoe, lawn mower, tractor, street sweeper, track drilling equipment, knuckle boom refuse loading equipment, rear loading garbage truck, paving machines and roller equipment (some are CDL required for operation at level II)
- Operates various standard hand-held manual, electrical, and gas-powered tools and equipment, e.g., hammer, shovel, rake, screw drivers, wrenches, digging bar, chainsaw, chemical sprayer leaf blower, weed eater, hedge trimmers, edger
- Cleans, maintains and adjusts tools, equipment and machinery, e.g., maintains fluids, performs general servicing and minor repairs
- Depending on assigned department, this position may also:
1. Provide traffic control at job sites
2. Maintain and repair medians, sidewalks and roads, placing and maintaining manholes and patching pavement
3. May build, repair and clean storm drains for water drainage
4. Perform routine departmental duties such as digging, carpentry, raking, shoveling, brick and block laying, and concrete work
5. Perform routine maintenance work on departmental trucks o Build fences, perform concrete work, make street curbs, and put up signs o Pick up and process trash and debris
- Performs related duties as assigned
**SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:**
- High School diploma (or GED) required, with one (1) to two (2) years experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, ski ls, and abilities for this position
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license (CDL required for level II)
- Schedule flexibility when required to work late hours, weekends, and snow and emergency response
- Ability to add, subtract, measure, multiply and divide, calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to utilize technology driven work order system
