What You Will Do

As a Custodian, you will use your experience to perform essential custodial duties. Your expertise will impact the condition of County facilities through the sanitizing and cleaning of all areas within a building, including collecting trash. The Grounds Manager will rely on you to aid in creating a safe and sanitary environment for employees and visitors.

Essential Duties

  • Assure that buildings are clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly. Tasks include cleaning lavatories, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and using industrial powered equipment to clean and wax floors.
  • Pick up litter, empty trash cans, and put trash in dumpster.
  • Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
  • Apply salt to prevent icy conditions and shovel snow at building entrances during inclement weather events.
  • Assure that walkways and exits are kept clear. Note potential maintenance issues and report to supervisor for scheduling repairs.
  • Maintain all cleaning equipment.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely fashion. Accept feedback.
  • Demonstrate an ability to collaborate and a willingness to learn. Participate in a supportive work environment.
  • Exhibit integrity, ethics, and fiscal responsibility.

You Might Be a Good Fit If

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • Up to one year of related experience
  • A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Bloodborne Pathogen training (or must obtain within two months of employment)

  • Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.
  • Occasional exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.
  • Frequent physical activity: standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying, climbing steps, squatting, stooping, and related activities.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
