This listing is for primarily front-of-house responsibilities, but is NOT a traditional server role. In addition to customer service, you will be helping with bartending, plating, bagging, running, cleaning, bussing, and some prep. The ideal candidate would aspire to learn other BOH tasks down the line too.
Hours: 28 to 40 hours/week, including weekends. Two consecutive and consistent days off. Must be willing and available to work up to 40 hours when needed.
Mirisata is Oregon's only Sri Lankan restaurant, the world's first vegan Sri Lankan restaurant, and Portland's only worker-owned restaurant.
This is a unique opportunity to be an equal worker-owner of a profitable cooperatively-run business. We are doing things very differently from how restaurants are typically run, so we re looking for folks who are excited to work together to build a thriving business with strong collaboration andmunication.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
These are not requirements -- we'll work with the right person to build up their skills
Demonstrated ability to work well in small teams, particularly in restaurant or food service settings
An interest in vegan cooking, Sri Lankan or other Asian foods, and/or worker-owned cooperatives
Restaurant or bar experience (FOH or BOH)
Experience working in a start-up environment
Ability and interest to cross train as a dishwasher and/or line cook
Requirements
Confident, friendly, and effective customer service skills
Ability to multi-task, self-manage, and work well under pressure
Willingness to observe COVID safety measures including masks and rapid testing after known exposure
Willingness to learn about Sri Lankan cuisine
Multnomah County Food Handlers card + OLCC server permit
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Position Responsibilities
As worker-owners, we all contribute wver is needed and avoid hyper-specialized roles. However, we do each have certain tasks that we re primarily responsible for. For this role, those include:
Plating some dishes (like Rice & Curry)
Assembling and bagging take-out orders
Explaining the menu to customers
Making signature cocktails
Expediting
Cleaning
Contributing to sambol (condiment), short eat (appetizer), roti (bread), and beverage (housemade syrups) prep
Attending meetings and participate in cooperative decision-making
Other responsibilities may occasionally include:
Basic veg prep, cooking, and reheating
Assisting with inventory
Benefits

Bi-annual $75 reimbursement for kitchen shoes

Trial Period for Worker-Ownership
New workers participate in a six month trial period before bing full worker-owners. During this time, you will be paid the same as all other workers and be invited to participate in decision-making conversations, though will not have a formal vote. The trial period may be terminated at any time by 2/3rds vote of the current worker-owners. If the trial period goes smoothly and everyone feels this is a good fit, you will be invited to be a member of the LLC and officially be a worker-owner.
Most discussions and decisions happen on Slack. Our operating agreement dictates various voting thresholds required to make different decisions, though we always strive to make decisions on a consensus basis.vInitial staging shifts are paid at $21/hr, before moving to $22.50/hr as a full-time worker-owner candidate. Worker-owners currently make $23.50/hr.
