The primary duties for the Utility Worker I are:

  • Gathers meter reading for billing usage of customers via walking or driving to input data into handheld computer.
  • Handles utility billing service orders to include water turn on/shut off orders, leak detection, and repair of broken parts.
  • Inspects, installs, maintains, tests, and removes water meters.

This position is covered in the Teamsters bargaining unit and incumbents must live within a 30 minute drive of their regularly assigned work site.

Hours of work will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Utility Worker I Minimum Qualifications:
Hourly Wage $21.2089 to $26.8361
A High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related experience, are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description.

  • A valid Oregon Driver's License Class C is required at time of hire and a motorcycle endorsement may be required.
Within 12 months of appointment incumbents are required to obtain:
  • Oregon Certified Flagger
  • Valid Oregon Commercial Drivers License Class B with tanker endorsement
Within 18 months of appointment incumbents are required to obtain:
  • Forklift Certificate

Ranking and Selection
