Position: Laundry Aide

Summary:
Laundry personnel are directly responsible for the sorting, washing, drying, folding and delivery of facility's linens, including personal clothing of health center residents, keeping laundry room clean and well organized and in an operative state at all times.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Perform laundry duties as assigned including but not exclusive to :
Follow established policies and procedures of the laundry department.
Gathering of soiled linen barrels as needed
Sorting soiled linens
Operating washers
Switching of loads between washers and dryers
Operating dryers
Folding clean dry linens
Separating and hanging personal laundry
Separating personal white clothes and putting in proper bins
Loading linen carts
Delivering both personal as well as bed and bath linens
Stocking linen carts on hallways
Checking chemicals and refilling as needed
Directly responsible to the laundry supervisor for direction and instructions.
- Cleaning duties in laundry area:
Clean lint from dryers
Wipe and sanitize washing machines
Clean and sanitize soiled linen barrels and sorting carts
Vacuuming of laundry room
Keep laundry area neat, clean and well organized
Removing trash from laundry area
Other Duties:
Proper use of laundry equipment.
Proper use of laundry chemicals.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Attend monthly in-service training.
Attend staff meetings.
Obey all safety rules and procedures.

Qualifications:
Must be able to work independently and as a team.
Must have good oral and verbal communication skills and have the ability to
understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.
Must be able to appropriately prioritize and organize multiple tasks/projects.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and pleasantly with residents, families, staff, community resources, visitors and the general public.
Must be highly customer service oriented and dedicated to providing superior hospitality and service at all times.
Must be able to project cheerfulness and enthusiasm, maintain a positive attitude and work as a productive member of the Village health care center.
Must maintain a professional appearance in compliance with facility personal appearance guidelines.
Must be able to read instructions, safety rules, manuals and resident rosters in English.
Must recognize multiple resident laundry needs and prioritized actions to meet those needs, including emergency situations.
Must be able to use problem solving skills.
Must follow guidelines and policies as outlined in employee policies and procedures handbook.
Working conditions:
Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves throughout the facility and local community during workday.
Must be able to lift and transfer up to fifty pounds.
Subject to exposure to infectious waste and disease (HBV and HIV)
Subject to exposure to chemicals. Please read MSDS book for detailed description of chemical use.
Must be able to push carts and pull barrels.
Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, involved instructions.
Must be able to perform duties under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations or when working speed and sustained attention are critical aspects of this job.
Generally work in well- lighted, well ventilated rooms and halls protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Work around odors.
