Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. is one of the largest human services providers in California that operates a variety of programs to serve the poor and strives to find permanent solutions to crisis situations by offering clients the tools and resources needed to achieve greater self-reliance and stability in their lives.
Catholic Charities operates 18 community centers and 10 homeless shelters and serves the poor with multi-faceted programs, including: after-school childcare; immigration, refugee, youth employment and psychological services; homework assistance and tutoring; English as a Second Language (ESL) and General Education diploma (GED) classes for adults; and services for homebound seniors and pregnant and parenting youth. In this way, Catholic Charities maintains a continuum of care for clients as they move from vulnerability to self-sufficiency.
Hawkes Residence is an interim housing program for single unhoused women, operated by Good Shepherd Center (GSC), a program of Catholic Charities, Los Angeles. The program is located in Historic Filipino town, near Downtown Los Angeles.
The Hawkes kitchen staff prepare hot meals for up to 60 women residing in the program. Food is prepared daily in a commercial kitchen compliant with the Los Angeles Health Department.
The Kitchen staff performs general cooking duties in preparing food items to be served to Residents. Work involves planning menus, estimating consumption and cooking according to standard recipes and includes general cleaning duties. Staff will assist kitchen supervisor/cook in the planning and preparation of balanced, nutrition meals for Residents. Staff will ensure enough food has been ordered and stocked. Staff may supervise staff, volunteer and client kitchen workers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Cooks meals.
- Ensures enough food has been ordered and stocked.
- Cleans kitchen, storeroom, freezers, refrigerators, and all other equipment.
- Keeps an inventory of all food and supplies in stock.
- Arranges for or picks up donations.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Completion of six months to one year of technical or specialized training after high school.
- One to three years of related experience.
- Possession of a health certificate.
- Valid California driver license.
- Institutional cooking.
