About this role Responsible for performing advanced maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and air conditioning and heating systems. Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs equipment consistent with manufacturers recommendations and industry standards. Assists with the set-up of campus events, and building and office relocations. Ability to work a fluctuating schedule and rotating weekends.

What a day of a Maintenance Mechanic II looks like :

  • Assigns maintenance functions to staff in the absence of the Lead. Coordinates activities of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment, and in fabricating metal parts and tools.

  • Uses hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments to repair and maintain, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment,

  • Inspects equipment and machinery for safe operation. Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment and machinery. Reports any observed problems to supervisor.

  • Maintains and repairs physical structure of building and maintain grounds of campus or college. Keeps department and campus facilities in clean, litter-free and orderly condition.

  • Troubleshoots and addresses basic repairs and maintenance including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, glazier, and painting tasks. Assists trades specialist with more advanced repairs.

  • Prepares material list for supervisor to order materials and supplies to complete assigned tasks.

  • Routinely operates light equipment and various attachments including dump truck, bucket trucks and other related equipment.

  • Follows established safety practices. Maintains and performs in a safe workplace.

  • Accurately logs and provides updates on service requests. Tracks and records maintenance and repair work performed.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED with additional training related to the position

  • Minimum of four years related experience

  • Experience in maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Skilled in:

  • Delivering a high level of customer service

  • Effective time and task management

  • Attention to detail

Ability to:

  • Use a variety hand and power tools, machines and equipment

  • Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service

  • Work a fluctuating schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

  • Valid Florida drivers license

Education and Experience:

  • Lead worker or indirect supervisory experience

  • Refrigerant Recovery Certification Type I

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds

  • Reach and grasp objects

  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Stand for extended periods of time

  • Use of video display terminal

  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

  • Identify and distinguish colors and shades of color

  • Communicate information orally and in writing

  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication

  • Proofread and check documents for accuracy

  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury

  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions

  • Risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens

  • Operate motor vehicle

  • Work a fluctuating work schedule

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $19.00 hourly; however, the offer may vary based on the candidates education and experience.
