This position is located in the Housekeeping Department of the SW Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

The incumbent of this position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, conditions, and infection control that must meet the standards set by licensure and certification of the State of Louisiana and Veterans Administration, and the compliance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for the home. The Custodian 3 is directly supervised by the Custodian Supervisor B.

30%On a daily basis, cleans, mops, disinfects, dusts, and sweeps assigned area. Report deficiencies such as paint peeling, water leaks in faucets/toilets, bugs in light covers, broken equipment, etc.

30%Cleans contaminated trash bins. Decontaminates patient rooms, restrooms, and isolation rooms which contain biohazard wastes such a blood, urine, feces, and used needles. Disposes of infectious waste when necessary and documents that proper procedures were followed.

30%Strips, buffs, waxes, and disinfects floors to an assigned area on a regular basis using required industrial machinery.

Vacuum and shampoo carpets by using a wet/dry vacuum cleaner. Cleans furniture, walls, baseboards, door mirrors, toilets, urinals, the whirlpool, shower stalls, etc by using approved chemical cleaners/disinfectants as required for health standards.

10%Mixes cleaning solution to proper concentrations as necessary for various tasks. Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment.

Attends in-service training as required pertaining to safety, biohazard material control, chemical safety, new equipment orientation, infectious control procedures, etc.

Performs other related duties as required.

Compensation: This position is eligible for retention pay of $2.00 per hour
