Job description:

  • Opens and secures buildings; inspects buildings and grounds for safety, security, cleanliness and fire hazard, including checking fluid of batteries of emergency lighting and all other emergency equipment, and contacting Police and Fire Departments in emergency situations.
  • Observes energy conservation measures.
  • Determines and reports the need for maintenance and/or repair of machinery, equipment, and/or building and grounds.
  • Maintains, adjusts, and performs standard maintenance on the heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment/machinery.
  • Cleans and/or lubricates tools and equipment.
  • Operates and use hand tools and cleaning equipment such as floor polishers, rug shampooers, vacuums, etc.
  • Responsible for supplies as follows: assists the senior custodian in determining the amount kept on hand, requisition and issue, maintains inventory of, accept delivery of and pack and store.
  • Tests and evaluates the performance of custodial products and outside services.
  • Performs the following building tasks: Collects and disposes of building trash; sweeps, mops, waxes, and/or seals floors; maintain/wash carpets; wash walls, furniture, windows, and equipment; dust and/or polish pipes, equipment, furniture and brass.
  • Performs the following grounds tasks: shovel snow and/or sand and salt grounds, catch basins, overpasses, etc., and inspect and clean perimeter of school buildings properly.
  • Sets up furniture and/or equipment for classrooms, meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent bulbs and fuses, and replenish supplies in rest rooms on a regular and routine basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the building principal.
  • Performs the normal custodial duties as outlined for Junior Building Custodians.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the building principal.

Qualifications: High School/Trade School Degree preferred
