MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER
Work Schedule: 8 hours daily, 261 days per year (Hours subject to change as needed.)
Evaluation: Annual, as outlined in board policy and administrative procedures
Reports To: Director of Facilities and Assistant Director of Facilities
Compensation: Per experience and step schedule
Summary: Maintain all outside middle school and high school athletic facilities for practices and events. Expected to perform general maintenance when services are not needed for outdoor activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain all outside middle school and high school athletic facilities.
Perform all outside grounds work at the Educational Services Center.
Apply pesticide applications 3B (turf, grounds & athletic fields).
Apply pesticide applications 7A (indoor ants, flies, roaches, bedbugs, rodents, etc.).
Apply pesticide application 3A (ornamental pest management).
Apply pesticide application Category 6 (Industrial Pest Management).
Provides general maintenance services when outside work is not needed.
Maintains the high school artificial turf: Football, Baseball/Softball & Soccer
Mows lawns and practice fields in accordance with the approved procedure.
Fertilizes and seeds in accordance with the approved procedure.
Operates the irrigation system for middle school and high school athletic fields.
Keeps the football stadium, baseball, softball, and soccer fields, and tennis courts maintained and free of litter.
Supervises assigned employees in regular grounds care and cleaning.
Supervises and directs the cleanup of the Penn High School Football stadium after each game or event.
Prepares all varsity athletic fields for games by lining and marking as directed.
Assists in the preparation of middle school football fields and tracks for competitions.
Stores and repairs all athletic equipment and makes needed equipment available when requested.
Operates and services all power equipment required for job function.
Accept additional duties assigned which are consistent with the function of Groundskeeper.
Follow the directives from the Director of Facilities, Assistant Director of Facility and the Superintendent that serve to improve services to students and patrons of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Certification (or willing to obtain certification) for pesticide applications; classification 3A, 3B, 7A, and Category 6.
Knowledge of lawn maintenance (i.e. weed control, fertilization, irrigation).
Knowledge of operating and maintaining irrigation systems (i.e. head repair, charging system and fall blow down of system).
The ability to use and maintain all equipment related to lawns and the athletic fields.
The ability to operate specialized equipment for the high school football field artificial turf.
Knowledge of preparing fields for competitions; layout and marking fields for the following: Football, Baseball/Softball, & Track and Field
d. Soccer
Working knowledge of corporation geographic layout and boundaries.
Good time management skills and ability to prioritize work and give exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent work habits, attendance record and must successfully complete and pass all criminal history and child abuse clearances.
Shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
Recommended to have CDL Class B license (or willing to obtain the license).

Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as temperature and noise extremes, odors, humidity, vibrations, traffic hazards, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however the noise level can vary depending upon daily activity, but will still remain within the acceptable noise level range
