at The Salvation Army USA Central Territory in Waukegan, Illinois, United States Job Description Key Responsibilities Kitchen Operations Oversee assigned meals following menu schedule Ensure food is prepared and served at scheduled times Maintain high standards of cleanliness and order Comply with OSHA and food service standards Enforce personal hygiene and appropriate attire requirements Supervision & Training Supervise kitchen helpers during Chef's absence Train and oversee beneficiaries in kitchen duties Ensure compliance with food safety protocols Fill in for Resident Manager as needed (evening/overnight shift) Facility Management Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization Monitor food safety and storage standards Assist with inventory management Support overall kitchen operations Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required Graduate of accredited food service program preferred Six months institutional cooking experience preferred Skills & Abilities Strong communication skills in English Basic computer proficiency Basic math skills Manual dexterity and attention to detail Ability to follow food safety protocols What We Offer Professional development opportunities Supportive team environment Mission-driven organization Training and advancement potential Physical Requirements Regular standing and walking Lifting/moving up to 50 pounds Manual dexterity for food preparation Ability to work in varying temperatures Work Environment Kitchen setting with moderate noise Warm and humid conditions Temperature fluctuations Some travel may be required for training The Salvation Army is an equal opportunity employer.
