Overview:

A private family estate in Connecticut is seeking an experienced, discreet, and capable Domestic Couple to serve in the roles of Groundskeeper and Executive Housekeeper/Houseman. This is a full-time, year-round, hands-on position that requires high standards, integrity, and a team-oriented mindset. The successful couple will have strong practical skills, a service mentality, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the household and grounds teams. The couple should be willing to work at different hours and different days as needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Housing: Private on-property housing can be provided in a separate structure after a minimum of six months of successful employment.

Groundskeeper Responsibilities:

Perform and oversee full landscape care: lawn maintenance, planting, pruning, tree and shrub care, and seasonal tasks

Manage and lead a small outdoor team with a hands-on approach and attention to quality

Maintain and troubleshoot all mechanical and infrastructure systems, including HVAC, irrigation, plumbing, electrical, septic, and pond systems

Supervise vendors and contractors, monitor work quality, and coordinate scheduling

Plan and execute seasonal and long-term projects including fencing, minor carpentry, outdoor lighting, and maintenance of exterior structures

Carry out small handyman tasks such as repainting walls or structures, replacing fixtures, and maintaining interior and exterior property finishes

Operate and maintain outdoor equipment and tools, including snow removal and power tools

Support setup and takedown for outdoor events and ensure grounds are always guest-ready

Respond to weather emergencies, power outages, and urgent repair issues

Manage equipment and supplies inventory

Maintain organized documentation of schedules, budgets, and property records (via Google Docs, shared calendars, etc.)

Executive Housekeeper/Houseman Responsibilities:

Perform daily housekeeping with precision, including care for fine furnishings, antiques, artwork, and specialty finishes

Organize and maintain household inventories, closets, cleaning products, supplies, and linens

Support the House Manager with administrative tasks and special projects, including external errands

Assist the chef and provide formal service for private meals and events, including table setting, tray service, and guest care

Oversee and execute seasonal deep cleans and guest preparations

Maintain interior orderliness in support and staff areas

Manage household laundry, including delicate fabrics and specialty garments

Assist the house manager with other housekeeping staff

Use basic digital tools (Google Docs, shared drives, online calendars) for task lists, inventories, and scheduling

Couple Requirements:

At least 5-10 years' experience in a similar domestic couple role or in private service

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; professional demeanor at all times

Strong physical fitness and stamina; able to lift 75 lbs and work in all weather conditions

Comfortable operating outdoor machinery and equipment

High attention to detail with pride in personal standards and discretion

Tech-savvy: both must be comfortable using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendars), email, and basic digital record-keeping

Strong organizational skills and ability to plan ahead, prioritize, and execute independently

Valid U.S. driver's license required. Candidates should have a safe driving history suitable for coverage under our household insurance policy. While minor past infractions (e.g., expired registration or parking tickets) are not disqualifying, we are unable to consider candidates with a history of DUI or reckless driving violations.

Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of organic or sustainable gardening and flower growth practices

Familiarity with Connecticut climate and regional plant care

Experience with fine art and textile care (Housekeeper)

Light carpentry and home improvement skills (Groundskeeper)

Familiarity with smart home systems (e.g., Crestron, Lutron, etc.)
