Head Custodian

JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of HVAC and electrical equipment and related maintenance.
• Knowledge and ability to perform groundskeeping tasks including tractor, loader, and mower operation.
• Ability to work independently coupled with a desire to supervise a team of fellow custodians.
• High school diploma supplemented by formal training in mechanical or related trade plus one-year minimum work-related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed acceptable by the superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months with two weeks vacation, compensation per salary schedule.

REPORT TO: Director of custodians

PERFORMANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential job skills/knowledge and abilities:

• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections; determine what equipment is broken or operating inefficiently.
• Repair or replace a variety of fixtures and equipment such as lights, electric motors, furnaces, stoves, kilns, washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water coolers, and ice machines.
• Order and process supplies and equipment.
• Maintain school grounds in an attractive, clean, and safe condition.
• Maintain athletic fields and prepare the facilities for athletic events.
• Responsible for scheduling weekend activity coverage with custodial staff.
• Supervise full and part-time custodial staff.
• Coordinate the pick-up and delivery of district equipment, mail, and in-district correspondence.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the director of custodians.
