Job Description
Position Title : Custodial Services Coordinator/Head School Custodian – 40 hours per week, split between schools and central office
Reports To : Associate Superintendent of Operations and Athletics
General Description: The Richmond County Schools’ Custodial Services Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Superintendent for operations and athletics, and is responsible for providing technical support, material support, and organizational direction to the custodial staff at all schools and facilities to provide safe, clean, and efficient facilities.
Essential Job Functions :
- Responsible for the cleanliness, appearance and working environment of facilities throughout the school system.
- Recommends and implements policies, procedures, and/or work practices required for the purpose of meeting district goals.
- Inspects all school buildings for cleanliness and appearance and notifies school administrators of any deficiencies and provides recommendations for improvement.
- Plans, implements and maintains a custodial training and safety program to include the operation and use of equipment, proper usage of chemicals and supplies, and proper cleaning methods.
- Coordinates/conducts the yearly custodial training workshops for general cleaning and summer floor cleaning.
- Conduct a monthly inventory of the custodial supply warehouse to ensure there is an adequate supply on-hand and place orders for products as needed.
- Maintain warehouse area to ensure it is clean and free of safety hazards.
- Maintains applicable Safey Data Sheets for all chemicals in use and provided by the maintenance department.
- Receive and process custodial supply requisition forms and deliver supplies to schools in a timely manner.
- Monitor each school’s supply usage by conducting periodic inventories of supplies on-hand at each school.
- Complete monthly custodial supply usage report.
- Analyzes and selects products and services used by custodial staff including cleaning supplies, chemicals, paper products, and equipment
- Assist general maintenance supervisor with delivery and repairs of custodial equipment.
- Willingness to accept and fulfill additional assignments as requested by immediate supervisor or maintenance director.
Physical Requirements:
To carry out the essential job functions for this position, the successful candidate must be able to:
- walk, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch.
- lift light to heavy objects, with or without assistance.
- work in various inside/outside environments (heat/cold) and be subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
- safely work in situations where they may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment.
- safely work in conditions where there is occasional exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, oils, chemicals, and other allergens.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial work.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle when towing a trailer or heavy equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders and instruction manuals and to use good judgement to prioritize and complete work assignments safely and expeditiously.
- Use good oral communication skills and interact professionally with administrators, other school employees, students, and the public.
- Must be punctual and adhere to established working hours, attend work regularly without undue absenteeism, be productive and effectively manage time, and demonstrate a cheerful and cooperative attitude.
- Must have basic computer skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft® applications.
Qualifications :
High School diploma or GED required. At least five years of experience in the custodial field or school administrative field preferred. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Working Environment :
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
