POSITION: Custodian

DEPARTMENT: Facilities/Operations

REPORTS TO: Building and Facilities Manager

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Custodian supports daily facility operations by maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming environments throughout the building. Key responsibilities include routine cleaning of interior spaces (e.g., restrooms, lobbies, offices, and event areas), restocking supplies, minor maintenance, and assisting with setup and teardown of events. This role helps ensure a healthy workplace through diligent sanitation and upkeep practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
  • Clean and disinfect workspaces, including desks, chairs, and meeting rooms. Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, walls, windows, and ceilings.
  • Empty trash receptacles and dispose of trash. Transport trash and recycling to external disposal areas.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, fixtures, stall partitions, and floors.
  • Clean and disinfect public areas, kitchens, and breakrooms, including countertops, appliances, tables, chairs, and flooring.
  • Perform light maintenance such as changing bulbs, touching up paint, and minor repairs.
  • Assemble office furniture and event setups.
  • Replenish supplies (paper products, soap, water).
  • Maintain and store cleaning equipment properly.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning agents and equipment.
  • Lock/unlock premises and turn off lights and equipment after hours.
  • Monitor for and report facility hazards or pest issues.
  • Collaborate with facilities and security teams.
  • Participate in special cleaning projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

  • This position does not have budgetary or financial oversight responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with proper handling of cleaning chemicals and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires regular walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing and repetitive physical tasks (e.g., mopping, vacuuming) are common. The role may occasionally require the use of stepstools or ladders to reach elevated surfaces or fixtures. The role may require carrying and transporting trash or supplies across long distances and in various weather conditions. This role is typically performed independently and involves sustained physical activity over an entire shift. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role is primarily based in an office environment. Occasional outdoor work may be required (e.g., snow/ice treatment). It involves exposure to cleaning chemicals and moderate noise levels. The employee may occasionally be required to participate in offsite meetings or events, including potential travel as needed. JOB STATUS:

  • FLSA Classification: This position is non-exempt according to guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, as such, an individual in this position is eligible to receive overtime pay.
  • Full- or Part-Time: This position is full-time in nature. An individual in this position will regularly work a schedule consisting of 40 hours per week.
  • Work Location: This position's primary work site is the headquarters location in Colorado Springs, CO. The nature and responsibilities of this position are such that it is not eligible for alternative worksite arrangements, such as working from home or telecommuting.
  • Regular Schedule: The position's usual business days are Tuesday through Saturday, and its usual business hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. in the time zone in which it is located.
