Maximes is the newest opening from the club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley; owner of prestigious private members clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswalds in London.

Maximes is located on Madison Avenue, New York on the site of the former Westbury Hotel and will continue the long-established Birley tradition of providing exceptional experiences to our members and guests.

Barbacks/Beverage Support, support the Bartenders with all preparation aspects, restocking, and maintaining cleanliness. They also work closely with all front- and back-of-house team members to uphold the standards of the bar program and create a welcoming atmosphere, elevating Maximes brand and service standards at all times.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following and may change or be adjusted at any time:

  • Maintains complete knowledge of Maximes policies and procedures and ensures that all practices and policies are being upheld.
  • Prepares bar for service by filling wells with ice; preparing fruit trays; restocking the bar with beer, liquor, wine, glassware, and juices; and stocking trash cans and towels.
  • Maintain cleanliness and stocking of bar throughout the shift.
  • Properly rotates products and ensures perishable items are labeled.
  • Regularly checks the draught beers to make sure kegs are functional; changes kegs as needed in accordance with safety standards.
  • Collects empty glasses from guests at the bar; washes and polishes all glassware.
  • Adheres to all Department of Health and Safety standards related to food handling, hygiene, and alcohol service.
  • Completes daily opening and closing side work, including cleaning the bar and removing trash.
  • Maintains sanitation to Department of Health standards, keeping service and dining areas clean and organized.
  • Supports bartenders with other aspects of bar maintenance as needed.
  • Attends mandatory meetings.
  • Adheres to posted schedules.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by management.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2+ years working as a barback in a fine dining restaurant or hotel environment in a similar capacity.
  • Proficiency in a variety of technology systems and POS platforms.
  • Current NYC Food Protection Certificate.
  • Willingness to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks.
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the restaurant.
  • Ability to operate with grace under pressure.
  • Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.
  • Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($16.50) plus tips
