Part-Time Public Service Staff: Reference/Children

The East Hartford Public Library is seeking customer service-oriented individuals for part-time positions in our Reference and Childrens Departments. This role involves providing reference and readers advisory services, as well as technology assistance and coaching to public computer users.
Position Details:
- Type: Part-time
- Hours: 7 11 hours per week
- A typical schedule includes 7 11 hours/week. Availability must include evenings and/or weekends: Saturdays (10 2), Sundays (1 5).
- Salary: $21.50 per hour
- Reports To: Assistant Library Director

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide reference and readers advisory services in the Reference and/or Childrens Department.
- Offer technology assistance and coaching to public computer users.

- Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of public computing environments and the ability to stay current with new technologies.

- Conflict Resolution: Skill in resolving confidential and sensitive situations.
- Professional Ethics: Familiarity with the ethics and values of the profession, including the Library Bill of Rights, the ALA Code of Ethics, freedom of information, confidentiality of library records, and privacy issues.
- Education: A four-year degree is required; MLS is preferred (MLS students are encouraged to apply).
- Experience: One year of related experience is preferred (library or retail). Experience with an automated library system is also preferred.
- Language Skills: Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
