Position Summary
About the current position:As part of the Portland Streetcar Maintenance Team, you will be required to perform assigned duties independently and in conjunction with co-workers, taking direction from PSC Management and Dispatch/Control. The Utility Worker I is responsible for routinely using hand & power tools in the performance of their assigned tasks, safely operating motor vehicles and using a forklift.
Typical Duties/Examples of Work
- Streetcar cleaning & servicing: Sweeping & mopping, exterior washing, interior detailing, refilling reading materials, refilling sand hoppers (requires routine lifting of buckets of sand).
- Platform cleaning & servicing: Garbage collection, sweeping, pressure washing, graffiti removal, snow & ice removal.
- Facility cleaning & grounds maintenance: Cleaning of offices, breakrooms, restrooms and maintenance areas. Cleaning of streetcar storage yards and other right-of-way areas, including foliage control and leaf pick-up.
- Landscape maintenance: Use of tractors and mowers, string trimmers, hedgers, backpack blowers and other power equipment and hand tools to care for turf and shrub beds.
- Traffic control/flagging: Perform work zone flagging and assist track & signal maintainers with maintenance tasks on right-of-way.
- Other duties may include customer service, forklift operation, motor vehicle operation.
About the current vacancy's division:Portland Streetcar (PSC) is a City owned transit agency serving the vibrant central core of Portland. PSC division assets include 17 streetcar vehicles, 65 passenger platforms, 2 maintenance facilities and over 14 miles of right-of-way, all of which require various types of support from the Utility Worker I job classification.
The Portland Bureau of Transportation's current vacancy is considered asafety sensitiveposition as well as an essential employee. This means that this position is subject to random drug screening and is required to respond to calls to work during weather emergencies and perform related duties as assigned.

Applicants must meet each of the following qualifications:
- Individual is eligible to participate in the Priority Reemployment Programper HRAR 7.04
- Abilityto perform various types of manual labor such as a variety of cleaning, loading and unloading equipment, and landscape maintenance.
- Abilitytowork courteously and effectively with range of co-workers & contractors, including the abilityto respond appropriately to questions & concerns from co-workers and the public.
- Ability to safely and effectively use hand and power tools, such as:pressure washers, blowers, snow removal machines; and the abilityto perform minor servicing, adjustments and repairs of assigned equipment.
- Abilitytosafely operate motor vehicles such as pick-up trucks and vans, to perform duties.
- Abilityto work independently and in conjunction with co-workers.
